I have been doing this since I was three, and I can tell you it is better if you choose something you or your family have been impacted by. I chose child abuse because I am a survivor. You might have a family member who has had a problem with alcoholism or a friend who has been in a drunk driving accident. You should also choose a topic that will be sure to be "people friendly." In other words, you want something people can identify with. For example, a person choosing a children's cancer society will have much better luck than someone choosing the humane society. Everyone cares for children in crisis, not everyone cares for the overpopulation of animals. Get it? Hope this helps.
