As close to immersion in a period as possible is wonderful. Sometimes that can be achieved in small ways. One day I was on a small beach on Lake Huron. A tall ship (which is docked here for the summer.) sailed by. With nothing around the ship but the blue of water and a mottled sky, and with no one other in my view; It was easy to imagine what it must have been like to be an Anishnabe (first people in Ojibwe) and see the first Europeans land.

We have a annual affair here called the Feast of St. Clair, it's a recreation of a typical great lakes encampment circa the early 1800's-a time when French Canadian trappers, English forces, Jesuit priests and Native people mingled at Fort sides. Whole families as well as individuals camp using only replica (or actual) period items. Some people sell items typical of the time. It's easy to both see history as it might have been, as well as all the anomalies that occur with the mangling of truths. Such mangling is very frustrating.

I'm hoping we can continue to speak of history in the future J & J. I apologize for not writing yesterday or the day before: I've had a very bad cold.

I'll be away for the next week. I'm off on a family camping trip. Take care my friends. I look forward to writing with you again soon.
