The offers - from 20 of Visa's Global Smart Partners - cover a wide range of products and services for card issuers and acquirers. Through its Global Smart Partner Program launched two years ago, Visa International negotiates special offers with leading smart card technology vendors. A series of discounts have been agreed over the past two years that have helped Visa member banks to start to migrate to chip technology. Most offers are for limited time periods and a limited number of early adopter banks. Two new companies, UbiQ Incorporated and Welcome Real-time, have also joined the Visa Global Smart Partner Program, bringing the total number of participants to 30. "The success of previous offers has encouraged us to continue to negotiate some great deals for Visa member banks that are moving to chip," said James Lee, senior vice president, Emerging Technologies at Visa International. "Working with global vendors we can ensure that discounts are available worldwide and that they cover all aspects of chip migration. We are also able to complement local offers that Visa has also negotiated with regional vendors.' Some examples of the new offers include: test tools (Barnes International; ICC Solutions) smart cards (SchlumbergerSema) payment system software, smart card management software, professional services, multi-application card management systems (Bell ID, Cards etc., Datacard Group, IBM, IFS International, Proton World, SchlumbergerSema) personalization solutions, data preparation, key management solutions (Bell ID, DataCard Group, NBS Card Technology, Thales e-Security, UbiQ Incorporated) smart card migration training/consulting and EMV training/consulting (Gemplus, Giesecke & Devrient, Oberthur Card Systems, SchlumbergerSema, Ingenico) EMV hardware, software and professional services (Gemplus, NCR) EMV transaction software (Oasis Technology) PoS terminals (SAGEM Monétel, SchlumbergerSema) smart card based loyalty software (Welcome Real-time) Added Mr. Lee: "As we continue the migration to chip technology, we recognize that we have to do more than just issue specifications. Through programs such as the Visa Global Smart Partner Program we are making products affordable so that more banks can participate, which, ultimately, benefits our vendor partners." Note To Editors: Visa is the world's leading payment brand. Visa-branded cards generate more than US$2.3 trillion in annual volume and are accepted at more than 29 million physical locations around the world, including more than 800,000 ATMs. The Visa organization plays a pivotal role in developing innovative payment products and technologies to benefit its 21,000 member financial institutions and their cardholders. Visa is a leader in Internet based payments and is pioneering the creation of u-commerce, or universal commerce - the ability to conduct commerce anywhere, anytime, and any way.
