I find AHL'ers are much more accessible... and they are more likely to approach and chat. They tend to hit the place that trendy on what ever night they are out... and visitors seem more likely to stay in town and go out after games since many teams bus so they wait for the morning to leave. I have met a few who are too full of themselves (and really shouldn't be) but most have been sweethearts... and more than willing to buy drinks.
NHL'ers seem to stick to themselves more when they are out... it isn't until they get shitfaced that they start to mingle. But I have had a few fun nights on the town with NHL'ers too... but that is more rare.
