I remember seeing his wife last season and she was pretty, very tiny, long brown hair and very, very, very tan - kinda orange. And she was really young.

Cassidy Named In Paternity Suit

By Greg Sandoval
Washington Capitals Coach Bruce Cassidy was named in a paternity suit filed last year in Salt Lake City.

According to court records, Cassidy acknowledged being the father on Jan. 24, 2003, and agreed to give custody to the mother, identified in court papers as M.D. O'Rourke.

The baby boy was born in December, according to a source familiar with the case.

"An agreement was reached amicably," Cassidy said. "Given the circumstances, I want to be the best parent I can be."

Cassidy declined to comment on the amount of child support he will pay.

"I've met every financial obligation so far and have every intention of fulfilling it," Cassidy said.

O'Rourke's attorney, Amy Hayes, said her client didn't want to comment.

Cassidy, who refused to discuss his relationship with O'Rourke, separated from his wife, Lisa, shortly before being named coach of the Capitals on June 25, 2002, according to published reports.

This season, his first coaching in the NHL, the Capitals are 33-25-8-5 and have struggled to hold off the Tampa Bay Lightning in the race for the Southeast Division title.

Cassidy spent two years as head coach of Grand Rapids of the American Hockey League. Under Cassidy, the Griffins went 95-49-18 in the regular season and he was named the AHL coach of the year after leading them to a division championship.

As a player, Cassidy was picked 18th in the first round of the 1983 draft.
