Subject: This is an honest question. I'm confused - why is Leah so visible with the pistachio folks? and why is she tweeting from the Miss CA twitter and telling people to hashtag leahharps? Why doesn't se graciously step away and not try to steal/maintain the spotlight? Didn't she learn from how ticked she was at how Noelle did the same thing to her?

Leah, as of last Fall, is a paid employee of Pistachios and a member of the team operating APG's social media and marketing. Sometimes Crystal will be at events where Leah is working but most of the time she won't. I saw pictures of the both of them having a great time in San Diego for APG's convention. Crystal was there as Miss Ca and Leah was there covering the advertising and media for the event. Its Leah's JOB to work the media and marketing. She didn't STEAL it from Crystal. True, she is more involved with current girls than maybe other queens have been, but geez...they are her friends and she wants to see them succeed in a program she understands and has worked to build. I think the feeling that you're trying to convey is that you just aren't used to a queen sticking around and being seen in pictures all the time. There's something in the pageant fan mind that looks forward to a new girl/new year and seeing Leah so involved with a miss ca sponsor kinda annoys some people. As far as I know, yes. I have seen girls get pulled (or at least threatened with that) if they don't have their CMN in. Maybe the girl in question handed someone a check right before the pageant, and the site was not updated? That's a CMN staff job. Steve Takemura, I believe is the primary contact with CMN and the person to go to if there are problems. If I were an ED, and last minute donations were coming in , I would ask the contestants to make copies of any checks or screenshots of any online credit card donations as proof that the donations were actually paid. There have been times when donations didn't show up right away online due to CMN technical problems, not any wrongdoing on any contestant's or volunteer's part. Subject: An invitation to San Francisco ED Steve Takemura

Way to much anonymous speculation without clear answers, and it was starting to turn negative. If anyone out there knows the ED of the San Francisco pageants, Steve Takemura, please let him know that he is invited to come on here and explain the official story of what happened with his pageant's change in status this year, since there seems to be so much interest. My understanding is that Mr. Arnhym was there, the Field Director was there, and therefore whatever occurred, whenever it occurred, was approved. Clearly, the Miss San Francisco title was open this year, since the winner is from Orange County. There's one more weekend of locals to end the season. Best of luck to all the competitors! Teen won't be known until appointed are announced, which is after all are crowned. Miss will be 54, a loss of 7 from last year's total of 61. In the Miss pageant, 1st runner-up was Suzanne Zang. There were eight contestants. Tiffany was the overall winner in interview, talent, evening wear and on-stage question and Ereka was overall winner in swimsuit. In the OT pageant, 1st runner-up was Brooke Dawson. Aly was the overall interview winner, Brooke was the overall winner in talent and evening wear/on-stage question, and Kaitlin DeMott was overall fitness winner. There were 5 contestants. I like Jordan Krinke, however what association does she have with the city of San Fraincisco? She is as far removed from San Francisco as anyone else living in Southern California. I'm not a huge fan of these OPEN Pageants. If they want to be open I think they should at least be representative of the area or close by. Lee meriweather was Miss San Francisco and guess what? Subject: Crowning The Next Miss CA Before The Pageant

The simple fact is, the pageant starts more than 3 months from today. Many girls who may not fit some people's idea of the next Miss CA today in March, may work their tails off and totally transform by pageant week. More importantly, the moment someone declares anyone the next winner, the immediate response is typically someone disagreeing, pointing out "the chosen one's" shortcomings as they perceive them, etc. And once again, we have nasty arguments over contestants who don't deserve to be picked apart in the process. I know many of you are EDs, parents and friends who are justifiably proud of your titleholder's/daughter's/friend's accomplishments, and you are more than welcome to express your excitement here. Likewise, some of you may genuinely like some of the contestants and want to make constructive suggestions on ways to improve before the state pageant. (If that is the case, you may be better off sending them an email or a private message on Facebook.) To summarize� All posts of the nature of "Suzie Smith IS the next Miss CA! Personally, I prefer these lists with rationale supporting your choices, but if you just want to lists names and titles, that's your prerogative. So these are the rules for now. But if you can't handle them in a responsible manner, then I'm afraid I'm going to have to restrict communication even further. California is blessed to have arguably the most competitive state pageants (Miss and Teen) in the nation, with the overall calibre of contestants higher than just about any other state. Let's celebrate that over the next 3 months, and make them feel loved and appreciated, the way the class of '13 so charmingly and maturely loved and appreciated each other over the last few months. There are 7 structured locals - all single title as far as I know - Blythe, Azusa, Garden Grove, Lake County, City of Orange, San Diego and Marin County, and only one open - Hollywood/Southland. From what I hear, the interesting thing about Hollywood/Southland is that they have several newcomers to MAO, but only a few returning titleholders. The surprising thing about that isn't the presence of "newbies." When I was ED, I always made an effort to recruit new girls to the program, and with an open it can be easier - there is at most one orientation meeting, and the entire pageant and rehearsal all take place over one weekend - so it's an easy time commitment for someone who may not know exactly what she's getting into. I think if open EDs make the effort to get new girls to enter, and don't just rely on former titleholders for contestants, opens could prove to be CA's secret weapon to expanding statewide participation in the Miss CA program, which has been slowly declining even though the number of state contestants has grown. For those of you who do a joint structured/open pageant with more extensive training and rehearsal for your structured contestants, consider making some of those meetings optional for the open contestants. The surprising part about Hollywood is the lack of returning titleholders who have chosen to enter. If I were a contestant in the last couple Miss CA state pageants, and I wanted to win in 2014, I would want a local title sooner rather than later, so I could focus on state and Miss America prep. Because let's face it folks, if you're not 95% Miss America-ready on Saturday night in Fresno, you're not going to be crowned. And if you seriously think that the only two girls who have a shot at the title are Jordan Krinke and Caylynn Simonson, then you don't know your Miss CA history very well. Don't get me wrong. Jordan and Caylynn are awesome contestants and would represent CA very well at Miss America. But NO ONE is a shoe-in, ever. At this time in the 2000 pageant season, no one, not even her local director, had heard of Rita Ng. At this time in the 2002 pageant season, no one in CA had heard of Nicole Lamarche, who had been 1st runner-up in Arizona, and then quietly moved to Berkeley to attend graduate school. That year she was 1st runner-up to Jennifer Glover, and the following year she was crowned Miss CA 2003 and 4th runner-up at Miss America. At this time in the 2005 pageant season, no one had heard of Dustin-Leigh Konzelman. At this time in the 2008 pageant season, Jackie Geist was the outgoing Miss Gavilan Hills, who had won that pageant much to her own surprise, and then won nothing at Miss CA. At this time in the 2010 pageant season, people knew former MCOT Arianna Afsar would be competing somewhere as a Miss, but no one seriously thought she's win on her first try - way too young! So, you never know. Someone no one has ever heard of, someone who has never entered a pageant before, someone who may have just moved to CA from another state may prove to be the ONE next summer. Or maybe it's you - the girl who competed last year and did well, but no one's talking about yet; or the girl who didn't place or get any special recognition who has been working hard ever since because she wants to prove she belongs at the top; or the girl that has taken a hard look at herself and decided what parts to keep and what parts to change and is reinventing herself to be the better version of herself she always knew she could be. But, frankly, if I were any of those girls, I wouldn't waste time waiting for the "perfect" pageant to come along. There may not be as many opens this year as last - Anaheim Hills/North County is gone; Nat'l Orange Show/San Bernardino County is now a single crown structured pageant under new management; Monterey Bay/Central Coast may go away so Kati can focus on the Teen program. If you were to participate and assist in another state or local program (outside of CA), where would you go and why? My choice would be Rhode Island, which is an open program and a non-sash state, with little organizational politics. Not sure who is vying for the Miss LA/Culver City titles or Miss Woodland Hills. Jordan K is a bit more visible these past few weeks--am thinking she will be competing but not sure where. So many deserving girls and so few spots....am excited to see how it all works out...I luv pageants but know that it really can be so unpredictable and heartbreaking. I am so proud of the Miss California Class of 2013 for taking the initiative and putting the final nail in the coffin in this divisive, hate-spewing "forum." As many of you know, I have had my fair share of bashings on this 'ol thing...really bad (seriously, someone once said that the noose around my neck was tightening, or words to that effect. I've also been denigrated for political speech, among other things), and there were times when I thought that I would give up; that I would let the immature, spiteful, and vindictive people win. However, I used this board to push me further than I ever imagined, and I overcame it. However, I am a strong person. I was able to handle this. Why am I here, posting this dissertation? For the contestants who will come after me. I am going to protect them from these individuals to the best of my ability. Even if they are as strong as I am, I don't want them to ever have to go through this torture. NO ONE deserves to be bullied. And believe you me, as the law catches up with technology, there will be ways to CRIMINALLY go after the individuals who dare post on this board, and civil claims are sometimes already an option. I will personally troll this board to make certain that no contestants are bashed ever again. I will not refrain from using the law as a remedy should the need arise. What disgusts me most is that the people on this board, with the likely exception of a handful of tiara-obsessed pageant moms, are the volunteers who greet us with hugs and smiles at Orientation, Miss California, and local competitions. HAVE SOME DIGNITY AND ACT LIKE A DECENT HUMAN BEING, OR GET THE HELL OUT OF THIS ORGANIZATION. (And don't kid yourself, I know which ones you are. IP addresses aren't exact, but they give a pretty dang good ballpark.) If you are a volunteer in this program, I challenge you - I implore you - be a force for positivity on this board. Join us, the contestants, and change this culture. The reason this board has been a mess of anarchy for so long is because the "good" people who have some integrity know it exists but refuse to go on it, so the only voices are the haters. That ends right now. This board will be policed and patrolled, and if y'all start another one, we'll just do the same thing. It ends this year. It ends with us. I will protect my sisters. When this happens, the response is indented underneath the comment you have responded to. If the comment you responded to was negative, and your response was positive, both get removed when I remove the negative one. Any responses underneath and indented to a negative comment automatically get removed. That's just how Voy boards work. So if you are making a positive comment, and don't want it removed, click on the link "respond to this message" at the bottom of the original message, and it will be a stand alone comment. Stephanie is one of my best friends and I can't imagine my MCO experience without her. Since we were sister titleholders we have grown so close and I have really been blessed to have her in my life. We had a great time together. But one thing I observed that people don't often mention about Jordan is how smart and insightful she is. It probably makes her a great dance teacher, and is the one of the reasons so many of her co-titleholders hold her in such high esteem - she "gets" what they're going through, and instinctively knows how to help.
