I agree that girls being sexualized has increasingly changed over time and that Miley is certianly not the first. Teens do silly things. But the power of the media versus the lack of strong parenting at home creates an environment that impacts social change for young girls in a negative way. When we encourge our five and six year old girls to do cheers and dance to adult music with sexually provacative lyrics, when partying teens on Spring Break and Girls Gone Wild are flashing across TV (even short images that are quickly passed by have strong messages), and girls like Lindsey Lohan, Britney Spears, and other celebrity girls with bad behavior are our young children's role models, we can expect our children's values to not develop appropriately.

Kidd, I heard the conviction in your voice this morning and was glad to know that you were bothered by Miley's situation for young girls across the globe. It IS the parent's responsibility to raise our kids to make good decisions and know what is right and wrong. I think, sadly, that many parents don't have those abilities themselves. People want to be accepted, youth and adults alike, and sadly, too often, that is when we let our values, if we have them, fly out the window.
