Dear Colleagues:
Please be advised that our next special tutoring session will be tomorrow Tuesday, May 6th, from 4:30 pm to 6:00 pm, in Campus School 106-D.
In order to maximize our effort, please do the following:
1. Try to use the same computer you used last time we met in the computer lab. In this way, we will be saving time, by not having to download the WS_FTP software to transfer your files to the Inter’s server.
2. Try to bring your index.htm or index.html file in a floppy. The most important part of the electronic portfolio is your “home page”, which is the same as the index.htm or index.html document. In most cases, if everything is working properly in your home page (links, images, etc.) everything will work fine for other pages in your web site. If you are experiencing problems, I need to check out your home page, either live in the Internet (if you already transferred it to the Inter’s server), or in your floppy.
3. Please be advised that if you save a file, any file at all, in the hard disk of most of the computers in this lab, you will not be able to delete, unless you ask for help to the lab technician in charge. This is so because they configured these computers with a security lock that does not allow files to be deleted.
4. Please be advised that the computers in this lab are configured to work differently than your home computer or laptop. In most of them, you cannot access your floppy files by clicking in the My Computer icon. You have to use the My Documents folder, and then click on the arrow next to the right of the address. Sometimes it takes time to find the path to a given folder, etc. I have discovered that most of these computers are configured with the following path to find the desktop folder:
C:\WINDOWSNT\My documents and…\generica\desktop
5. And finally… I am well aware that for some of you this is your first experience in building web pages. Do not get discouraged if something apparently is not working as you expected. Even computer wizards (like Dr. Calimano! I wouldn’t dare to call myself a computer wizard…) experience once in a while drawbacks and technical problems that take time and a hard effort to be solved.
6. If you are starting your electronic portfolio, please check Dr. Calimano’s earlier postings on the basics to start building it. I highly recommend you to print them out, and bring it to the tutoring session.
I want to congratulate everyone that has been attending the tutoring sessions. You are doing a great job indeed! You’ll see the fruit of your great effort completed in the next couple of weeks.
Best regards,
Brumi
