Subject: How do I know I'm ready?

I've had one lesson at ohiopyle last year, where I learned how to enter and exit an eddy and how to do a wet exit. I've had my Diesel 75 in a small creek near my home in Brookville and I grew up canoeing at least three times a summer. So how do I know when I'm ready to start going on larger rivers? Do I need more instruction?
