The duct tape sounds easier than what I've done. I have covered shoes with fabric but it's more or less permanent. If you want to do this cut a square of fabric a little larger than the shoe. Place the point at the toe of the shoe and begin glueing the fabric to the top of the shoe, trimming close to the sole and pushing the fabric as far as possible into the space between the sole and the upper part of the shoe. The fabric will be on the bias and will stretch and smooth nicely over the shoe. Don't, Don't attempt this with hot glue. You will need to smooth the fabric, so use a white glue. When the fabric is glued over the top of the shoe, cut out the opening of the shoe, leaving about a 1/4 to a 1/2 of inch of fabric. Clip this remaining fabric and turn inside the shoe, glueing it inside. If you have a strap, cut fabric on the bias and glue to cover the strap.
