Subject: Re: Vickers Valetta Crash Lyneham 1951

My paternal Uncle, James Kinahan died in this crash. He was Irish from County Westmeath.
I am researching this as part of my family history and am trying to find out more. I don't even know where he was buried. My Dad only ever said his brother had been killed while serving in the RAF, everything else I had to try and track down myself.
I would like to know more about this if anyone could help or guide me in the right direction?!

Niki Hall.

I was present at Lyneham, on National Service, when this happened and was in my first floor billet when I became aware of the unusual sounds of an aircraft in trouble quickly followed by the crash, and explosion which seemed to be quite near.

The flight had arrived from abroad and after a while took off again heading for it's home base in Yorkshire when it got in to difficulties.

Several airmen from the north had hitched lifts without any authorisation.

Sorry I can't be more helpful.

PS I am now 86 !
