Subject: Closure of RAF Changi

I was a Cpl in Supply Wing at Changi in 69/70 having been posted on from Gan. Along with a Sgt Ron Johnson we made up the "Dudley Cell". This was an office set up to finally close down each section on the base, dispose of all the equipment, sorting out was was to be returned to the UK, what was to be destroyed and what was to be handed over to the Singapore Armed Forces.The latter was costed and subtracted from the final financial settlement paid to the Singapore Government. Each moth I would put on my SD hat, meet a Singaporean Officer and hand over a building. (That would be nothing lass than A Sqn Ldr doing that in todays RAF). Slowly closing up the entire base until all that was left was Changi Creek hotel that was home and office until that was closed and the final people flew home of set at at Tengah. Interesting times
