Strength of gels should come from the gel and not from the tip.

Glue breaks down in water eventually, so the less contact area the better.

Build your arches and concentrate on the sidewalls for strength. Try usinf fiber if needed. Try forming out the whole nail on a form instead of overlaying a tip to give you practice building a nail that gets it strength and stability from only the gel.
