Subject: reoccuring fungus

hi, I have been a nail tech for almost a year. I am the only one in a small town in nothern British Columbia, Canada. Be fore I became a nail tech, my mother & I got our nails done for about four years at a salon in another town an hour away in which we had to travel to for our appmnts. To the point, my mom always was getting fungus under her nails and usually in the very center of her nails where there was no lifting anywhere around. It would be totally sealed everywhere and she would still get fungus. We thought this was a "high end" established salon (they charge $90.00 for full set of LCN gel, been in business for 10 years plus) so we thought for sure they would know what they are doing and what they are talking about. They told us that the reason my mom was having so much trouble with fungus is that she has very moist nail beds and there is nothing they can do about it, it's her own fault her nails do that(she is also going thru menopause). Well since I have be come a nail tech my mom has never gotten fungus under nails at anytime by me, and she travels all across US and Mexico and has never had any trouble with fungus when she gets fills done by others. So my question is does anyone know how a person can get fungus in the center of the nail with it being totally sealed all the way around the nail? Is it the clients fault or is it the tech's fault? Do oily or moist nail bed have anything to do with it? I have started a policy in my salon that I educate my clients about the way gel works and how it affects their natural nails and how everyday life affects their nail enhancements. I am sick of these nail techs who make clients feel like problems with their nail enhancements are all their fault especially if it's the tech's fault from poor sanitation or poor prep work. And Barb, if you read this I just want to tell you thank you from the bottom of my heart for all of the hard work and effort you put into your website. I am sure I can speak for all tech's in a isolated community that you are a lifesaver!!! Any info on this question would be very much appreciated, thank you.Jessica
