Subject: Arena is fun!

For those of you who don't care about how I did, skip past this part. I'm just unleashing some excitement. :)

For the second week in my life, I played in an arena league. It's really fun, and I'm really glad I got a chance to do something besides battle people around here.
I used my extended stompy deck, which I made lots of important changes to. Here's how my day went:

Game one, match one against my brother:
He was playing his rebel deck, which had lots of good enchantments and solid searchers and life gaining. When he got Worship and Cho-Manno in play, I went from a definate win to a loss.

Game two, match one:
I was killing him, with a bunch of creatures. On the turn before I killed him, he played Worship. The only problem was, he didn't have any creatures. I killed him.

Game three, match one:
I didn't have an excellent hand, but it still looked like I was going to win. Soon, he got good defense, and the only things that could get through were my Scribe Sprites. They didn't do it, so he finished me off.

Game one, match two, against some guy, using a green deck with big creatures and Elvish Piper:
I got a good hand, but he couldn't get anything for a while besides a first turn Taunting Elf. He finally did get something, an Emporer Crocodile. I had 3 creatures out, and attacked with them all. He blocks the crocodile on my Rogue Elephant, and his eyes get really big as I Invigorate the elephant. He puts it in the graveyard, and I win next turn.

Game two, match two:
We both had good hands, but he never got much of a defense against my creatures. He put up a good effort, but my deck blew past him. My record so far is 1-1.

Game one, match three, against guy with an odd blue deck with Prodigal Sorcerer and Thran Golem:
His deck reminded me a lot of a modified "Time Drain", the blue/green preconstructed deck from Urza's Legacy. He started out by keeping my lands tapped with Mana Vapors (I think that's the card), but my creatures beat him up. He got a Thornwind Faeries and a Prodigal Sorcerer, which he used to kill some of my 1/1s. He never got a good enough defense to get through all my creatures, though. I won.

Game two, match three:
I didn't start off very well, and I couldn't pay for any creatures. He got a Thran Golem enchanted with Zephid's Embrace. I coudln't deal with it, so he killed me. My record is

Game three, match three:
I get good stuff, he doesn't. I attacked with a strong offense, and kill him quickly. My record is 2-1.

Game one, match four, against unexperienced kid with blue/white flying deck:
He told me before the match that he only won 2-3 times in a seven weeks. I expected to win. He didn't even get anything in play the first game. All he played was a Healing Salve. I kill him.

Game two, match four:
He did a little better. He got a Samite Healer and a Sunscape Familiar in play. He saved himself once with Holy Day, but he couldn't win. I killed him with about 19 life left. My record is 3-1.

Game one, match five, against kid with an all burn deck:
This guy's deck used only burn spells and Mountains. His only creaute was Latulla, which he used for burning. Before the match, he said that our decks were probably equally good. I thought he'd be pretty good. When I get a first turn Llanowar Elf, he plays Shock on his turn. I assumed he was good, so I start to put the elf in my graveyard. He says, "Are you crazy, I'm not shocking it, it's only a 1/1 creature!" I realize that he isn't as experienced as I thought. We were going back in forth with my Wild Dogs, because one burn spell would put me less healthy than him. One attack would put me healthier than him. I eventually got more creatures, and won due to his playing mistakes. For an extremely simplistic deck, getting me to 6 life was pretty effective.

Game two, match five: I got mostly Ghazban Ogres/Wild Dogs. He pulled ahead of me with a first turn Shock. From then on, I was in trouble. I couldn't draw anything else, so he ended up winning.

Game three, match five:
I got a good start, with lots of quick creatures. I pulled ahead of him, when the time limit ended. Whoever had more life at the time limit won, so I got the win. My record is 4-1.

I think I did really well. I reached my 15th (I know, I know, Kobold has like 1500) DCI point that night. I won a free Arena Forest, which I now use in that deck. I am 6-3 in Arena play, which I'm happy with. I do not think that many of those kids were as good as I thought that I'd see, though. I later traded a Soothing Balm, 2 Scent of Jasmines, a Disenchant, an Enlightened Tutor, a Plains, and an Aura Blast (I think that's the name of the Disenchant-like card from Planeshift) to the kid with the burn deck for 5 rares. I got a Doomsday Specter, Avatar of Will, Mogg Sentry, Phyrexian Delver, and Stalking Assassin for those cards, which I bought back half an hour later for $1.25 at a store.

As I said, I'm just unleashing some excitement :).

Now here is the new messed up Inquest top ten:

10: Lord of the Undead (top ten???)
9: Utopia Tree (Birds of Paradise seems better to me, what am I missing?)
8: Shivan Wurm (It's definately one of the better cards in Planeshift, but I think there are better cards that they're forgetting)
7: Undermine (Makes sense)
6: Absorb (Makes sense)(I love my foil Absorb :))
5: Orim's Chant (Yes, it's top ten material)
4: Doomsday Specter (Hmmm...should be a little lower on the list)
3: Urza's Rage (3 uncounterable damage is good, but not that good)
2: Meddling Mage (Makes sense, this is awesome)

And number one....
Not Rishadan Port...

1: Phyrexian Scuta (Yeah, I can see why it's first)

I can't believe that they didn't have Rishadan Port or any of those great cards. Note that they're all from Invasion and Planeshift. This is suppost to be a type 2 top ten. They're still trying to capitalize on Invasion and Planeshift. Though you have to admit, they're cool sets.

Longest post ever? I think so. :P
