ok... deeper mockup... see what I need to put into it:

Bajdormi (Lower Sleepers)

The Bajdormi are the creatures that inhabit nightmares. These lower sleepers walk amongst a level of existence known as the Scape. The Scape is only accessible in a dream state, or by those who are able to dream lucidly. When encountered without warning in the Scape, A typical Bajdormi appears as a large, obsidian-colored sphere that can vary in size from 3 to 12 feet in diameter. From the main body, large tentacle-like extensions stretch. These tentacles are made of pure fear (as is the body of the Bajdormi) and, unless controlled by the owner, will cause any being that has a corporeal form to rot (including natural planeswalkers and those who are dreaming.) However, in a normal situation, the Bajdormi will control its powers, so as to drain as much fear/nightmare thoughts from the subject. If need be, the Bajdormi can use its ability to shapeshift to change to another form. This is usually done when the creature encounters a being of below genius intelligence that cannot fully comprehend its true form. In doing so, the form take will only be made in the essence of the being represented.

However, since the Bajdormi only feed off of the warped minds that produce nightmares, their perceptions of a being will be flawed along with this. For example, a Bajdormi, knowing not the restraints of the laws of a plane’s physics, will not understand that a being that is clothed is naked beneath said clothes. As such, the Bajdormi encountered when in the form of a knight will be hollow, without form. The fragile nature of the essence will also produce certain flaws that many Bajdormi cannot understand. Therefore, the being may think that a person who appears as a fearful monster (twisted features) LOOKS as such, and if they see the same person they will not be able to discern the two as one being. As such, with these mutations, the Bajdormi have no true grasp on facial features, and will rarely include ‘superficial’ characteristics in their shape (eyes are most commonly left out.) The more ancient the Bajdormi the greater its ability, so far as that it is suggested that some have left the Scape and live almost exclusively in the humanoid worlds.

It is said in the Scape that there have been some children fostered by Bajdormi fathers and humanoid mothers. These children are able to exist in both planes and can use the ability of the Bajdormi to perfectly shapeshift. As such, they are highly valued as spies by the lords of the plane they are born on.

However, the nature of the Sleeper is such that their energy is in the Scape. To not return to it would irrevocably destroy a sleeper unless it has enough humanoids to feed upon constantly. This works to the advantage of those who must kill a Bajdormi, since to do so you must isolate it, trap it using some sort of device that challenges its abilities to comprehend (a puzzle box, maze, or any kind of trap that uses properties unassociated with the Scape) and then when it is starved kill it. It is also rumored that there are spells possessed that can kill a Bajdormi but only if it is in a shape and outside the Scape. However, with their extreme intelligence, the Bajdormi will usually fade back to the Scape when it sees a threat and dodge the spell or trapping attempt.
