I can fully relate to what you are saying. I had experanced the same thing as you, though I did not get my degree in education, I had been a subsitue teacher on and off for around 13 years. And, the teachers I had worked with, and most of the people in my family are teachers, and they just dont get it either. For me it took me 7 years to compleat my AA, and another 6 years to compleat my BS. Due to not being able to find work with my degree, I went to school another 2 years, from which the department head droped me from the program when I had never failed any of the classes in the program.

Over the years of my struggle through college I also struggled to learn what the disable rights were. I finally was able to attain those laws through writing my congress man and requestiong a copy of such law, and how they pertained to education. I also spent much of that time studying, and researching how the mind works, learns and such as well as just how my disability affected me. I had learned many tricks over the years, and though I had figured out most of it, and still missing that final straw. Because of that, when returning back to college some classes were extreamly easy for me, while others were still a struggle. I believe much of that was due to how teachers would design test. That was the final straw I was having difficulty with. Though I can undestand and see through most of the wording of many test, there are still some types I still have difficulty with. This is also true with some books as well. I know the two are tied together, to how to read the book and how to look at a test to know not what is the most correct answer but the answer the teacher is looking for. The most correct answer I have down, but the one the teacher is looking for, most of the time due to them looking for the wrong answer, I will get triped up in some classes but not others.
