Actually ADA states the students have the right to alternative testing methods. Scantron (which gives me the most difficulty), mutable choice, oral, matching and such. I personally find that opened questions in essaies works best for me, and if I am allowed to answer an essay question orally is the best over all.

This alows me to give open ended answers as apposed to the closed ended confines of other test. By doing so, I am able to address all the diffent aspects or proceptional differences that may be preceved in a question. By doing so, I am able to compantly demostrate that I have a have a strong understanding of the subject.

With it being done orally, it eliminates any distraction of the person grading that may come about due to spelling and gramer errors. Plus I am much more cappable of formulating my ideals oraly than in writing.

Also, by not writing it down say on a scantron or placing the letter in the box, it prevent me from transposing letters, or my eye and mind mixing one letter for another question.

The only concern here is if a teacher is looking at a mutable question sheet, and expecting the exact anser on that paticular type of test. It would be like giving a student a mutable choice test without giving him the mutable choices to chose from.

Now the school may argue that this changes the nature of the course but that is not true according to ADA. An example of changing the nature of a course through alternative test would be on subjects such as Math, were the student is still required to work out a math problem. That being said, the student will still have the right to use a calculator or paper and pencil. Or, another example would be in an English class the student will still be required to write out his own paper, but again he will still have the right to use a computer. Or, a speak type program on a computer.

If the school or a teacher argues otherwise they would actually be in violation of the law. This being said, tradition is a strong opponit and many will feel differently due to tradition, which will confuse them of what is righ and wrong.
