Hi! Wonder if lots of writing formation practice is needed - it may be that this was not given in enough detail when your relative was very young - including how to join writing correctly. Any tutor with experience of very young children (5-7 year olds/KS1 in England) should be able to do this. I do intensive writing practise when children come into my Yr 3 (age 7) class, and rarely get reversed writing.
The short attention span is so common with dyslexic people. If you can, watch a bbc.co.uk programme (on iplayer?)called Kara Tointon - don't Call Me Stupid, with Tara discussing her problems, and talking to a range of dyslexic students, which is very inspiring, and shows how short attention span really can dominate a dyslexics life, and gives some ideas on how to sort this. A wonderful programme.
