Swordling was furious. Raiden and Stoakly wouldn’t let her go! She was a warrior, and after all, her father was a famous soldier. “Swordling,” Stoakly reassured her, “We understand you can fight. But you can cook and heal, like most female mice, and the others can not. If you can’t heal, Mossyra will help you out, okay?” Turning to the others, he strapped on his belt, and trotted after them. Raiden had his re-forged claymore in paw, Terragon had a dagger, and Stoakly’s cutlass was hanging loosely from his belt. The three fighters left Redwall Abbey standing side-by-side. “We should find Nicolaus and Tysharm first.” Terragon commented, her smirk directed toward Stoakly. “And that’s what we’ll do,” Finished Raiden, sheathing his claymore, “Heaven’s Judgment.” Puzzled, Stoakly inquired to the others. “Tysharm went with the others, over to St. Ninian’s, no?” Terragon nodded, and Raiden was unsure. The mouse had just joined this expedition. Heading northeast, they aimed for the old, ruined church. “Well, let’s hope the remainder of the vermin didn’t kill him.” Raiden spoke, almost negatively.
Nicolaus had heard many beasts moving around in the woods, so he parted from the rest, and luckily for Tysharm, he found what he was searching for. They were both still near the ditch, and three rats surrounded them. The mouse’s dagger was outstretched, and he pointed it at the rat. Tysharm had an arrow notched to his bow string, but the two were cornered. The rats made a triangle around them, and they were soon to come in and strike. Suddenly, they all charged. Nicolaus spun and defended the shrew from the other side, and one rat fell to the ground, an arrow piercing his chest – Tysharm hit dead on. But the other rat was soon to hit Nicolaus; the shrew turned, lifting his bow up. The rat, running too fast to turn back, hit his skull directly on the bow. It forced him to fall down in a heap, but he did not die. Nicolaus defend himself from the last rat and then spun again, pushing Tysharm at him and stabbing the rat on the ground. Tysharm dodged a swipe from the last rat, Fangblade, until Nicolaus turned back, grabbed an arrow from the shrew’s quiver, and stuck it in the forehead of the rat while his companion distracted him.
“Well, what do we have here?” Terragon laughed, her paws over her face. Stoakly grinned. “Tysharm, Nicolaus, we’re going after the vermin, they headed north and this was on our way, so here we are! Are we late?” Tysharm and Nicolaus glanced at each other, a sarcastic look on their face. “Not at all,” They said in unison. The five warriors began walking down the path, until someone yelled from behind them. “You forgot us!” An ottermaid and a badgermaid were running to them. Tinsy and Legolas both crossed their arms. “Did ye really think ye could git rid of us that easy?” Posed Legolas, and Stoakly grinned. “Sorry, I thought you were staying behind.” He looked down. “Good, you’re armed.” They all started walking down the path again, and Raiden finally yelled out. “Aha!” He bellowed. Pointing to tracks, he began following the weasel tracks northwest. “Alright, Sunset, Swordling, Tokie, and Mossyra are staying behind, right? These tracks indicate that there are half a score of them, and seven of us. We should be able to fight them off with the help of the other prisoners. But we have to do it before they reach their destination. Likely, they have a ship on the coast. We need to beat them there!”
The group had decided to refuse to sleep that night. The vermin had probably thought they weren’t being tracked, thus the leader probably had them sleep, with one guard taking duties. Raiden and Nicolaus had the front, and they both had the same plan. The camp was like a circle, and they could go in two groups and attack from the east and west. The fire was out now, but a few flickers would appear every now and then. Two beasts were held captive, tied up to a tree, but they were awake; it was a hare and a hedgehog. The hedgehog was very familiar – as a dibbun, she was the “Ringleader” of a Dibbun group they were all associated with at a young age. Coming in closer, they split up. Nicolaus went with Stoakly and Terragon to untie the beasts, and Raiden went with Tinsy, Legolas, and Tysharm to the newly formed “Leader’s Tent.” As Stoakly untied the hare silently, he finally realized who the hare was. Lettuceleaf had that twinkle in his eye when he winked, and right now, he was very happy. The guard, a ferret, was asleep, so the group could successfully destroy the place with no interruptions… This was war.
