Sunstreak peered through the branches at the vermin camp. There were about ten of them, huddled around the campfire. Near the middle of the camp, tied to a tree, was a young hare. The young badger could smell the vermin's reek fouling the salt air. He began to creep backwards, when he stepped on a twig. A quiet but sharp crack filled the air. The rats looked, alerted, and one of them spotted Sunstreak hunched in the brush.
"There! A stripedog! Get 'im!" They leaped up, drawing weapons. Sunstreak growled in dismay and raced away. Looking backwards, he tripped as the rats came closer.
Oh well, whats the harm? Sunstreak thought, and hurled himself onto the rats. Lashing out with tooth and claws, he heard one of the rats shriek in pain. Another managed to get hobbles around his paws paws, and they lugged him back to the camp. The rat that he presumed was their leader leered at him.
"A stripedog, eh?" He turned to the other rats. "Tie 'im up wid the rabbit." The hare tied to the tree piped up. "Actually I'm a hare, you rat chaps, not a rabbit, wot." One of the rats whacked him over the head. "Shurrup, rabbit." Sunstreak was hustled over to the tree and tied up next to the hare.
After the rats had sat back down, Sunstreak whispered to the hare, "I'm Sunstreak. What's your name?" The hare twisted his paws around so that Sunstreak could see that one of the pads of his front paws was sort of silvery coloured. "I'm Silverpaw."
