In reply to: A MacHine 's message, "What Kind of Fool (Heard it all before)?" on 07:51:29 05/15/03 Thu

Before I throw my hat into the ring, I'd also like to say that Mike is clearly a talented songwriter and I've liked pretty much 95% of his tunes over the years... (Let's not mention Mandy's "Positive Reaction" or The Twins "All Mixed Up" eh? ;o)

But I DID have to agree with the last message, and it was a mighty good chuckle!

Also, shall we have a little look at some of the more obvious "stolen moments" shall we?? ;o)

1) Rick Astley's "Take Me To Your Heart" is clearly a rip off of Inner City's "Good Life" (at least in arrangement and instrumentation terms)
2) Cliff's "Just Don't Have The Heart" has all the feel (not forgetting the EXACT 'oo-oohs') of Ten City's "That's The Way Love Is"
3) BoyKrazy's "That's What Love Can Do" is a (somewhat successful) attempt to recreate The Emotion's "Best of My Love"
4) Sonia's album track "Can't Help.." - I mean, to ACTUALLY LIFT the chorus' words AND melody directly from the bridge of Evelyn 'Champagne' King's "Love Come Down" is pretty audacious!
5) and HOW often was the beat from Dr Robert's "Wait" used in SAW single mixes??? WAAAY too many to mention!! (But then I accept that might well've been Pete Hammond/Phil Harding's fault!)

Just a bit of gentle fun-poking you understand!
Can't wait for Mike's new tunes (no, I'm NOT talking FFR either - I mean PROPER tunes, like he'll probably deliver via Natalie)

PS - I feel i must also reply to Mike's assertion that Pete Waterman never wrote a song or played an instrument in his life. Well a friend of a friend of mine's aunty once told them he played the spoons at a family party once! (Although I accept this was probably bulls**t too! ;o)

  • the pizza hut song HAS been around for years. On the subject of hearing it all before, and your reference to re-mixes, I'm surprised you take this as your excuse to call Mike a liar, or too old and losing his marbles. I think your interpretation of his comments bitter and twisted to say the least. Even I (a non-musician) can see the difference between re-mixes and the re-hashment of old ideas dressed up as NEW songs. You owe Mike an apology, matey. (NT) -- Jerome, 11:31:06 05/17/03 Sat
  • Phil, please keep watching and adding to the message board. Good to see that there is someone else who can be objective, have some fun, and post some good comments. We all respect Mike and i for one will say what i think because of this. I merely deliberately made the mentioned inferences from Mike's statement , although knew he was implying something else. Just having some fun!!!!! (NT) -- A MacHine, 13:41:39 05/18/03 Sun
