Author: Nathaniel Zola
Subject: My Sporting Biography

My name is Nathaniel (Natty) Zola. Sport has dominated my life as it seems to have for everyone in this class. I grew up in Boulder, Colorado and have followed Colorado teams all my life. I love the Denver Broncos, Avs, Rockies, Buffs, but I dont care about the Nuggets (no one in Colorado does). Growing up in Boulder exposed me to a very healthy fit lifestyle. It is a haven for endurance athletes such as runners, cyclists, tiathletes as well as recreational hiking, skiing, rock climbing, kayaking, etc. The athletic culture of Boulder has shaped my whole life and formed many of my values. As for my sport participation, I run xc and track for the University of Maryland, but I only started running as a junior in high school. Before I started running, I skiied competativly and snowboarded as well as played soccer, football, baseball and basketball. Now I prefer endurance sports like running and cycling. I believe they teach many lessons that are invaluable and unable to be taught in any class room. The 30 hours a week I spend at practice and with the team teach me more than any class ever could. So I am an active and passive participant in sports. All aspects of the 6 E's apply except for Economic. Our mens xc and track teams have no funding so we all run for free and for the love of it, but the other 5 E's are benefits enough.
