Subject: Sports Bio

Hi, my name is Lisa Adamson, I am a sophomore, and I'm from Glenn Dale, MD. I have not declared a major yet, but I intend to declare Kinesiology in the near future. I plan to study Physical Therapy after I graduate from UMD. I began my sporting career in kindergarten when I started taking ballet and gymnastics lessons. I continued gymnastics through eighth grade and I took many different dance classes including tap, jazz, and lyrical. My sophomore year in high school, I was a member of the Pom Squad. I loved participating in these activities because they fulfilled all of the Es for me (except economic outcomes). I also took tennis and golf lessons for a short time. I enjoy being a passive spectator of dance and gymnastics competitions. I wish I could be an active participant in gymnastics again, but I twisted my knee three years ago and have chronic knee pains. My family members have never really been active spectators in any type of sporting event, except for my dad who loves golf. Through this class I hope to gain a better understanding of the way sports impact our society as individuals and as a whole.

Hi, I’m Brianne “Bre” Meyers! I’m a senior KNES major from Deep Creek Lake, MD. I actually very recently accepted a research and fitness instructor position at Crunch Fitness Corporation in Los Angeles, CA. After graduation, on June 9th, I plan to move to Westwood, CA. to begin working under Robert Glick (a huge presenter in the fitness industry) at Crunch Fitness on Sunset Blvd. The following spring I will also begin masters work at UCLA, that fortunately enough, Crunch Fitness has generously offered to pay for J I began my sporting career at the age of two when I first entered my local dance studio, I’ve been dancing competitively ever since! Dancing also presented an opportunity for me to start competing in Sportaerobics, which although is unpopular in the US, is a national sport in many other countries. In 1999, I was Gold Medallist for the US and Bronze Medallist for the world, competing in this sport has allowed me to travel to many foreign lands as a member of “Team USA.” Throughout college I have taught aerobics for the Univ. of Maryland, Ballys, and WorldGate Spa. I have also had the pleasure of being a featured presenter at the past three East Coast Collegiate Fitness Conferences. I now hold an internship as the Assistant Director of Group Fitness at our Campus Rec. Center. Although I have only focused in dance and aerobics, my entire family is very active in the sporting community. My younger brother is a starting pitcher for West Virginia University, and his collegiate sporting career has kept my entire family very involved in the sporting community. From this class I hope to gain a better understanding as to why society views different sports as they do. For instance, why is Sportaerobics unknown within the US, but a national sport in Brazil?
