Hi everyone! My name is David Younkins, and I am a Kinesiology and Criminal Justice Major. I know, what a combination, huh? I plan to pursue a doctorate in Physical Therapy, and either go into law enforcement or PT.
My sports history has been widely varied throughout my life. I started with baseball at the age of 8, didn’t do too well at it, and then pursued gymnastics for a few years while competing in some team tournaments. Through junior high and high school, I began focusing on martial arts and wrestling, while still playing a little neighborhood football once a week or so.
At the age of 15, sports switched from a leisure to a professional activity when I starting teaching karate at a Germantown, MD school. Then, fitness itself became my profession, in a way, when I joined the Marines at 17. After getting out a few years ago, I became a personal trainer at a Gaithersburg gym. I have since been working with clients (focusing on Post-Rehabilitation) while still centering my personal sports efforts on wrestling and the martial arts.
In regards to professional sports participation, it is limited (i.e. “extra passive”) in my life. I enjoy a game once in a while, but I couldn’t tell you who plays what and where, etc. etc. Honestly, I am too impatient to sit for that long, especially with all the commercials! :-)
Well, I look forward to a great semester with all of you!
