Subject: Hello all

Hello all! My name is Viet Nguyen and I am a 21 year old junior who intends on achieving a Kinesiology degree here at the University of Maryland with specifics towards the Sports Marketing/Managerial side of KNES. I am originally from central Vietnam and on that note I must say, many stereotypes on Asian Americans and their "model minority" role in this society has not deterred me from pursuing my interest in this field as opposed the more common fields that most Asian Americans are perceived entering. (i.e, Comp Sci, engineering, etc.) This is due to my social surroundings as a child growing up here in our backyard of Silver Spring, Maryland. The neighborhood kids engaged into a lot of sports as well as other activities and I chose to be a part of it instead of watching from my bedroom window view as many others of our neighborhood kids' parents had them do. Initially, I was more involved in team sports such as Football and Basketball. I actually played for a Rec League for my county in my early middle school years. As the years went on and up into today, I find myself engaged into individual sports. Tennis and gold being my favorites. I also participate in passive/active viewing of such sports as I've joined some online fantasy leagues with the influence of some buddies from school. So all in all, I am a multi-talented athlete with interests in watching as well as playing sports of all types and I have future occupational interest in getting into the business side of sports (marketing, managing) from a degree in KNES.
