Subject: Sporting Biography

Hi, my name is Manda and I am a sophomore journalism major, with kinesiology as my concentration. I am interested in sports marketing/sports public relations/sports journalism as a career. Throughout childhood I was on softball, basketball, soccer, swimming, and lacrosse teams. In high school I played field hockey and basketball until I had some knee injuries that forced me to stop playing on more than a recreational basis. I am now just a leisure participator in sports for exercise and entertainment: playing basketball at the gym and football with my guy friends. I've always been an active spectator. I grew up in London and was an avid fan of English Premier League soccer, particularly the Blackburn Rovers. I support the Redskins (my father likes to say my first word was "Darrell") and have been guilty on more than a few occassions of yelling at the TV. I also follow the Naval Academy's athletic teams (my brother goes there and I work there during the summer) and of course Terps athletics (especially football, men's basketball, and men's lacrosse). Watching sports with my friends gives me a lot of entertainment and excitement. Currently I volunteer in the Men's Lacrosse office, and I hope to work in the sports industry when I graduate.
