Subject: Pembury Tavern

I first come accross the Pembury Tavern when a friend mentioned that it was due to reopen. The Pembury Tavern 90 Amhurst Road, Hackney, London, E8 1JH http://www.individualpubs.co.uk/pembury/ is a massive pub at the five-ways junction of Amhurst Rd, Dalston Lane and Pembury Rd on many bus routes and near Hackney Downs and Central Stations (so there's no excuse for not visiting it.

No draught Belgian beer (but draught Budvar)but several bottled (from web-site) Abbaye du Val-Dieu Blonde (6.0% ABV) Abbaye du Val-Dieu Triple (9.0% ABV) Abbaye St. Remy Trappistes Rochefort 8 (9.2% ABV) Brasserie d'Orval Orval (6.2% ABV) Brasserie St. Bernard St. Bernardus Biere Blanche (5.5% ABV) Brasserie Verhaeghe Vichte Duchesse de Bourgogne (6.2% ABV) De Graal Blond (6.5% ABV)
De Graal Triverius (6.8% ABV) La Binchoise Brune (8.2% ABV) Liefmans Framboos (4.5% ABV) Liefmans Kriek (6.5% ABV) Rodenbach Grand Cru (6.0% ABV). Several German Bottled beers too. Draught beer from Milton Brewery plus Guest Beers and a range of single malts.
Good food including cheese from Niel's Yard Dairy. One of the striking things is what they don't have. No Smoking, no draught Guiness or mass marketed draught lager, no music, no Magners.
Currently short listed for the SPBW london pub of the year.
