R.I.P. signme1

It is with sadness that I have learnt of the passing of a beautiful soul … our dear friend signme. As you all know she was an avid LFN fanfic reader and contributed much to the LFN fandom.

I met signme when I attended the Rivers Foundation and MIRA conference in Canada in 2005 at which we would meet Roy Dupuis. I met her at the hotel I was staying at in Montreal and we clicked right away. We sat together at the same table as we were newbies at the conference and because we were new we decided that we would leave a seat between us for when Roy came to our table. When he arrived he shook each of our hands as we introduced ourselves. When he greeted signme she introduced herself as Iyone pronounced “I own” and Roy with his quick wit responded with a deadpan inflection in his voice … “You’re on your own?” Everyone laughed including Roy and signme as well. What a fantastic reminder for Iyone to have of her first meeting with Roy Dupuis and I’m sure it set her heart a flutter.

I will always remember her beautiful smile and her warm hug when we said goodbye and although we would not meet again we always kept in contact from opposite sides of the world and corresponded often over the years. We have lost many good friends from the LFN community including Joyce and Maria who were also at the conference and now Iyone (signme).

It was my great pleasure to have called Iyone my friend. We will all miss her. Gone at 84 years young. May she rest in peace.
