Fanfiction wouldn't be fanfiction if the reader couldn't orient themselves in the LFN world. Using bits of the original story or bits of dialog assists the reader in knowing where you are coming from. You are basically "framing the picture" for the reader.
All writers owe a debt to writers who have gone before--without Dracula, by Bram Stoker for example, you wouldn't be reading a lot of cool paranormals on the market today. No one with any common sense think any of these new vampire stories steal from Stoker's work.
People who write critical words and don't identify themselves usually mean to insult instead of give constructive criticism. I wouldn't listen to this person. Frankly, their jealousy of your work is showing.
