I mean AU in the sense of a completely different universe rather than a Section universe where events turned out differently. The latter would be much more enticing (and easier) for me to write, I think because the essential "Section-ness" is still there.
I think one could argue that some of my stories are AU in the latter sense, although I strove to make them consistent with all of canon. I've also been *strongly* tempted to write Section-based stories where one or more key events turn out differently -- one of these days, I may even finish such a story.
But AU in the non-Section universe sense? Someone once told me I should try writing AU TR stuff, but I've found it almost impossible to do -- perhaps because Section as an entity is *so* central to the identities of my preferred characters. When I consider AU scenarios for them, I generally wind up concluding that they might as well be original characters, and where's the fun in that?
