This Swedish outfit, fronted by the brothers Dune, continue to amaze and delight with their cheeky, folksie, off-kilter
pop and an absolutely beautiful record. They lazily meander through different moods, in songs filled with coy lyrical
observations about their love-hate relationship with the US, where this album was recorded.

plus Royal City
Royal City bring their own lo-fi Americana. Stuttering drums, spacey banjo and deathbed vocals.

plus i had an inkling
Their songs are a proper headf**k dripping with bizarre chords, spastic rhythms, dry humour and trombone frenzies. There’s a definite homage to the angular post-punk funk of The Slits and Talking Heads but it’s been updated and wildly jumbled; presumably the result of a diet of post and math rock. Highly unconventional, I Had an Inkling are perplexing but never to the point of self-indulgence or impenetrability. Nick Mitchell’s distinctive anglicised vocals maintain some form of human connection as do a series of almost playful yet wry riffs. The amusingly quaint and slightly disturbing ‘Chin’ with it’s refrain of “take it in on the chin!” is probably the best example of what is becoming one of Manchester’s most interesting and original acts. The Long Blondes

The Long Blondes are five young dandies who used to see each other around town. One day, by chance, we met and we fell in love.

Our shared influences include the Mael Brothers, the Marx Brothers and the Bewlay Brothers. We do not listen to the Beatles, the Rolling Stones, Jimi Hendrix, the Doors or Bob Dylan. We chose an instrument each and learnt to play it. Approximately three months after we formed, we played a victorious 25 minute set at Leeds Hi-Fi club. A success! We inherit the aesthetics of early Roxy Music. We have a lot of influences, sometimes we sound a bit like them, sometimes we sound a lot like them. Sometimes we sound nothing like them at all.
