Subject: E-mail feedback for "Connected". :-)

Wow! We've got our first feedback about an episode through email. I've had plenty of emails asking for the location of the rest of S8, but never an ep response before.

This was sent to me by MT'sFan:

"Please pass this to both Wyvern and BunnyPhobia

So sorry I missed the post until it was in the archive. I always like to give my comments openly, especially when they are compliments.

I like the "Previously on ..." sequence. It brought me back into the story after the long wait. (That in itself was a complaint of sorts.)

Xander wasn't the only one rolling eyes at the bad eye joke. Although Xander hasn't been dark enough to murder anyone before, he has been subverted by hyenas and Dracula. This degree of darkness, right up through the cliffhanger, is new in his arc. One point here is that he has an arc developing over multiple episodes. Good going. The ever-polly me hopes he comes out redeemable.

To list the things I like in this ep:
The Xander twist and action around it, the departure of Amy, the interpersonal joust between Kennedy and Dawn, Giles taking charge, even though I don't like Andrew his humor is funny, Buffy and Faith trying so hard to 'save' Xander, then the car chase with the same objective. Oh. That's the whole thing. Well, that's how much I liked.

An issue where may be a need to suspend disbelief: (That's a fancy way of saying something didn't work for me.) 911 services permanently record the phone *and address* of the incoming call. The cops would have been at Casa Summers code 3 after Kennedy mentioned murder and was cut off. Oh, well. It's Sunnydale.

Back to that first complaint. Please don't wait so long for the next one.

The Dawn-centric review, you know there has to be one:

Typical Dawn about Xander and the killing - sickened and concerned. Although the story has to be told to Giles, Dawn doesn't want to condemn her friend. I like that she expects consistent use of the get-out-of-jail-free card long enough to see whether Xander was under outside influence. I like that Dawn's emotions range from sorrow and fear to defensive anger.

That anger and daring in the face of a potential is progress of a sort in Dawn's arc. Dawn's tone in Kennedy's face is the same as in Rona's in EP. I can imagine MT using that deep tone when being forceful with Kennedy.

I don't like the insulting reference to girlfriend during the verbal duel, though. Dawn has been more then tolerant; she has been supportive of Willow's relationships. I would constructively suggest that the reference was out of character for Dawn. If I missed the point, it shows that it needs to be clarified when D & K make up.

The Teen Witch's Book of Glamors, Love Spells and Blemish Cures wasn't taken by Sabrina was it? Funny!"

Then I got this email a little later:

"Oh. Embarassed. There was a second part. Okay, the review has a second part.

Revision to the 911 issue: Okay, the *cop* showed up. Very lame. Sorry, that's what I think. Around here at least, an mysterious 911 call gets 2 cars, 2 officers and a sergeant. They would insist on looking around. The call itself is probable cause. Anya's act was cute, but I don't buy that it would work anywhere but Sunnydale.

Xander keeping them away from the temple? He led them to it.

I like Dawn having the guts to try a magic spell. It is typical Dawn to do it alone without talking to anyone. It was really nice that it was Spike who interceded and did it before Dawn finished the spell. I guess resolution of Dawn's feelings and the altercation with Kennedy wait until next time.

Something else I didn't get: So if P's temple rose, why did everyone just walk away? Wasn't that apocalyptic?

I like that Xander and Willow still have the friendship to get through to each other, even if she had to knock him down first.

Rats! Amy's not gone.

I still like the story overall.

We also got flames for making Xander a murderer. It was very funny that a *fanfic* could get people riled up enough to do that...

Anybody want to ressurect Tara just to kill her again?! Backlash is fun!!!

[> [> Good point! -- Kashmanik, 22:17:29 05/31/03 Sat

Yes everyone, one reader got so enraged they decided to post some rather nasty comments on the Episode Guide. Along the lines of "You made Xander a murderer you sad fucks!" and "You've done more damage to Xander than Joss ever has!" and strangely enough "You're all gay!".

So kudos to Bunny and Wyv for delighting the readers! Still, good to know we're having an impact! :-)

[> [> [> Haha, I love it! But speaking of that... -- Mark, 00:10:45 06/01/03 Sun

Xander eventually WILL find out he didn't kill Amy, right? To me this story is more about exploring his potential for his darkness rather than actually dealing with a murder, so I hope he finds out soon she's really alive.

[> [> [> [> That's the idea... but I guess that ball's in your court... -- Wyvern, 11:55:33 06/01/03 Sun

Aren't you writing 18? Cos if it isn't covered by Kash and ABM, that would be a good place to resolve some of our issues (if you wanted).

I'm also kind of hoping that someone picks up on the enormity of the temple rising... these are both things I would have liked to explore, but there's only so much space in one episode... On reflection, I think I should have included something about it in the last scene with Giles, but then again, it was the kind of thing that really needed to be discussed by *everyone* and everyone wasn't there...

Anyway, thing is, if it can get people that het up, in a way I guess me and BP did a good job; the real shows brought about debate in much this vein and my personal feeling is that there must be a certain quality to the writing if it can get the reaction "OMG what have you done..." (love the comment about doing more damage to Xander than Joss ever did, which considering the ep was written by two if the C&S's biggest Xander fans is priceless) rather than "oh well, it's just crappy fanfic", then the reader obviously totally bought what we were selling :)

And hey, at least now Xander has an arc *g*

That was bold!!! Okay, I know you were joking, but let's not create backlash for the sake of backlash. That just leads to all kinds of nastiness.

As for Bunnyp and Wyv, you're episode was brilliant, the plot was amazing, the humour stomach achingly good and the dialogue sizzling. Like I said before, my only complaint is that it *totally* upstaged my episode!

I'm not pleased that some people felt the need to bash and can't help wondering if they actually read the second part. Or if they hang out on the board ~at all~ since Bunnyphobia is famous for being the biggest Xander fan there, excepting maybe Ozmandayus.

Glad you both got the masses of praise you deserve. Well done!

[> *mwahahahahhaahha* Look Wyvy, we made people MAD! -- BunnyPhobia, 22:52:25 06/01/03 Sun

I'm such a machochist. And a sadist. I'm just evil, cos this has made me SO EVILLY HAPPY!!

And yeah, the policeman thing was lame, but still...You got Anya funny out of it, and ME often did little things like that. hehe. Sorry, I'm just sat here chuckling.

You know guys, I think we're doing an AMAZING JOB here...People are actually caring about what we do...brilliant, just brilliant.
