Mick is one of the good guys. The mezz is the only venue I know of to give any sort of pay to the musicians and I know micks venue will do the same.In this case the bile that rip off promoters should get is being showered on the wrong guy.
We are actively seeking ways to throw a spanner in the works of those guys who have been ripping musicians off.
15 years ago a band could expect 500 quid Irish for their sweat and toil. Whats happened since then? has the costs incurred by musicians lowered? Is it now accepted that being a musician is not a profession and should have 2 jobs?
The apathy on the subject amazes me.Either musician dont think anything can be done about it or they dont give a shit so long as I'm alright jack. They are wrong either way.
Dromed made a valid point on cluas about the futility of petitions and in this respect i agree. maybe we need swampy or other radicals to chain themselves to these venues. only semi joking. with enough support the worst offending venue could be boycotted and picketted till a change was affected then move on to the next. Believe you me they would listen then. In the cheapest pubs everytime you buy a pint the profit to the publican is 1.79 euro never mind the venues who have an extra few cent per pint added on.
They dont have the money to pay to pay ? Bollox.
The point mick made about bands having to work with venues is also valid.Musicians are a funny breed, all creative people are but I think most bands work their arse off so we wont have many problems there.
Many of the people working in these venues and doing promoting were musicians themselves years ago. Shame on them . They would be better off getting jobs as car clampers - there would be more honour in it for them.
We at cpu-records are against these people making money off the backs of others without giving something back.We are making a stand and will suffer for it but we've got thick skins here so wont be backing down. We invite you to do the right thing and make your voice heard on the subject one way or the other.
