I suspect that all any of us wants to do is "clap our hands and sing, and louder sing, for every tatter in our mortal dress"-- that's how Yeats spoke it, the most esoteric secret of befriending our mortality, our poignant human vulnerability to loss.

What insane genius: that devastation is the only door through which we come here, the Mystery, the Holiest of Holies. My friend Greg thought I said something to him the other day about "stealing hope from Hell." Nope, that was HIM, hearing the transcendent in my tendency to not enunciate something (probably EXTREMELY prosaic) clearly enough to carry across the room.

There are all those trickster/hero mythological characters who DO that: steal fire for earthly creatures, such as ourselves, who will BOTH create magnificent lumination and wreak terrible destruction with it. And, prosaically enough, warm our homely little fannies in front of it.

I hope JP and Zero and Gill and Art and Cassandra are all still out there, still willing to sing the part of the Song that they're moved to sing.
