 What I have seen is, I believe, the extreme result of a hypermasculine dissociated, violent need to dominate others upon whom have been projected all manner of disowned energies. This need to dominate, control and manipulate is not only attributable to the terrorists; I sense that it is also the view of almost everyone involved. Perhaps we all share these tendencies to some extent.

I have seen reporting that has gone on and on in a polemic that never addresses our own culpability in these matters. I have also seen reporting and eye witness accounts that were dissociated and devoid of emotion. I see it everywhere. It is so hard for us to feel at all, to really be present and vulnerable with these overwhelming events. And because of this dissociation we ourselves may find it difficult to really grasp the horror of what is happening right before our very eyes.

Today I am an ostrich whose head has been forcibly yanked out of the sand. No longer am I in a complacent denial of the truth of what is going on all over the world. Terrorism did not start here today. It is epidemic in many parts of the world. There are real people everywhere suffering and living lives of constant fear. We are not alone and now neither are they.
