I have been to that place of separateness and worthlessness so many times, I lived there for years and had to learn to build a wall to protect myself because there didn't seem to be any other solution. It is still a place I know well but lately there it is more like a scary story I know will be over--not my only reality. And there is a feeling that my friends know this place too and we can hold one another in it.

What is landing on me like a ton of bricks lately is my own mortality. Not so much really a fear of dying, but what my life will be like before I die. Will it be a slow and fearful shutdown like my Mother, full of incomprehensions and fears, or pain, loss of physical freedom? I breathe deeply through these when they arise and that helps.
