They are pretty much just something to pass the time during peak MTBing season.

They are fun. But so is a trip to Berryman

If you are serious about racing MTBs, you should deffinately do some of these races, because several of the skills will eventually be called on in a MTB race.

I know of several D-bags who just live for CX. In fact they claim that they are "saving themselves for CX" during the road and MTB season, and are planning on peaking for CX. Of course, these people I am refering to are ALWAYS at the very back of the pack of the Cat5 race.
