In reply to: Silverfox 's message, "Does death and black metal really count as subcultures?" on 21:26:40 09/29/04 Wed

I was thinking about in your punk page how you said punk is almost anti everything. Death metal is almost a rebellion against rebellion. Even though metal is suppose to be rebellious it does attract a high audience and one of the annoying things about metal is it is a very wide wide genre of music with tons of sub genres in it. I mean you have thrash, nu metal( i hate that term but can't think of an alternative, industrial metal, prong metal, viking metal, black metal, death metal, hardcore, etc et. On a side note i hate most of the categoring associated with metal. I can't tell you how death metal orginated but it is thought to have originated as an off shoot from bands such as slayer and sepultura. Ironically the typical anti rebellion against rebellion attitude makes your typical fans of death metal VERY conformist. FOr some reason lots of metal fans (well the hardcore ones) like to to keep metal bands mostly as their own thus having them stay underground. DEath metal fans will typical label anything as numetal (not an enduring term for metal) if it doen't have any solos or heaven forbid they ever get one video on mtv they are considered sellouts.
