To stay alive, brother David hunts the squirrel. He tracks large herds of them all over Jamestown, Langdon and Pingerey. The squirrel meat is combined with government issued corn and cheese in a large kettel. It's not the greatest tasting casserol in the world, but it's warm and it's a long winter. The pelts are traded with the locals. On a good day, the hunter is able to bring home Dew and Cheeseballs. But on most days, all he can get are used tampons and some broken crayons. It's a rugged life. Things will get better though. The real bread winner of the family, the wife, is soon to be out of college
