As a Old Bridlingtonian I am shocked at the decline of the town in almost all its apsects. Socially it has become a B& B centre for the down and out, drug addicts and social security dependants. The visual appearance is depressing and if were not for the vision of those that press for a marina there would be no hope for the town. With the exception of the sea front esplanades I can think of very little that has improved over the last 30 years. If only all those who express dissent could only try and look to the future- More of the same cheap shops, a proliferation of amusement arcades, unemployment rising when it is falling elsewhere, house prices stagnant or falling when they are rising elsewhere and drug addicts drifting in in ever greater numbers feeling safe with there own. The marina offers no absolute guarantees but it has to be a better bet than the alternative. Those that support the marina project should make sure their views are aired - in the Free Press, here, and at the public enquiry because the Brid (Un)protection group (self styled and named) are in a minority but don't they make a lot of noise.
