GWU Introduces Animal Law Project

A group of university law school students, working with the society's legal staff, will get clinical experience representing the interests of animals in court.

There will be a new class at the law school, Animal Law Lawyering, and the students will receive credit for work on federal and local court cases to protect wildlife, prevent mistreatment of animals in factory farms and improve the treatment of performing animals and animals used in research.

The new project will be co-managed by Joan Schaffner of the law school and Jonathan Lovvorn, vice president of animal protection litigation for the Humane Society
