One possible problem is that those who now fight in Iraq do have a job, while other kinds of jobs are not available to them. Somehow they, and their families, can survive the existing conditions despite the many difficulties. They look back on the "good old days" when Saddam was in power and they were safe (others were not).
..... American movies, videos, etc. from Hollywood and elsewhere are available, and show to all concerned what life in the USA is like (never mind that the stories are fiction), and what "Democracy" really means in practice. Is that a better alternative to their present way of life? Probably many think that they now do what God wants them to do - at least that's what they are told; but is it true?
