*Belated sympathy to the family of former Miss Madison 1969, Betsy Jane Bennett Schulte who passed away at age 76 on August 24, 2024 in Madison, Wisconsin.
The Milwaukee native later attended UW-Madison when she became a contestant in the Miss Madison pageant which her victory advanced her to the 1969 Miss Wisconsin pageant in Oshkosh. While she did not place among the top ten, Besty was voted as Miss Congeniality among the 40 contestants (one of the largest assembly of contestants in state pageant history, shown here) which included eventual winner Miss Janesville, Cynthia Morgan:

Betsy successfully ran for a Town of Windsor board seat in 1986, subsequently serving six years, and she was later instrumental in creating a lake district for Lake Windsor which helped to save the lake in Dane County.

*Condolences to the family of Betty Joyce Guetschow Litjens who died at age 87 on Wednesday, September 11, 2024.
The Oshkosh native was a longtime volunteer for the Miss Oshkosh and Miss Wisconsin pageants that were held in her hometown at Oshkosh West High School.

*Happy memories and thoughts to the family of Catherine "Cathy" Sweet Sharkey who died at 62 on July 8, 2024.
For several years she was the director of the Menomonee Falls Distinguished Young Women scholarship pageant program.

*Condolences to the family of former Oshkosh City Attorney Fintan Martin Flanagan who passed away at age 97 on Thursday, September 19, 2024, two days after the Miss Wisconsin pageant announced plans to move the state pageant out of Oshkosh.
Fintan was one of the early prominent officials in Oshkosh to bring the Miss Wisconsin pageant to Oshkosh in 1963 after four years being held in Kenosha.
Incidentally, his beloved wife, Carol Jean Donovan Flanagan, was a former Mrs. Oshkosh who died at 86 on April 15, 2017:

*Sympathy to the family of Esther Louise Woebbeking Mikunda who died at age 98 on September 27, 2024 at her home in Tomahawk, Wisconsin.
Esther, a talented violinist, was Miss Ladysmith 1947 and was one of the very last surviving Miss Wisconsin contestants from the 1947 state pageant that was held on August 1, 1947, in Lake Geneva, Wisconsin, where Miss Baraboo, Gladys Elaine Berkley was selected as Miss Wisconsin 1947.
Funeral services for Esther were held on Thursday, October 3, 2024 at St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Tomahawk, Wisconsin.

- Miss Wisconsin state pageant host city news -- Fan, 21:45:26 09/17/24 Tue
For the first time since the Miss Wisconsin pageant moved from Kenosha to Oshkosh in 1963, the annual state pageant has found a new host city location.
Announced today, September 17, 2024, the 2025 Miss Wisconsin and Miss Wisconsin's Teen state pageant will be relocated to the 770-seat New Berlin West Performing Arts Center in New Berlin, June 18--21, 2025.
It will mark the first time that state pageants will be held in Waukesha County, which is also the home county for the current Miss Wisconsin's Teen 2024, Ella Marie Julianne Bey, the first black-bi-racial teen winner.
Prior to moving to Oshkosh, the Miss Wisconsin pageant was staged in Kenosha for four years (1959--1962), and in Reedsburg for six consecutive years (1953 to 1958). The Miss Wisconsin's Teen (formerly Miss Wisconsin's Outstanding Teen) began in Oshkosh in June 2005.
The slick pageant press release is linked here, which provides clear evidence that the very people who should have been told first about the move, were the last to know---and learned of the state pageant move to New Berline was from the media: the folks at the Alberta Kimball West High School staff, the Oshkosh city manager, and the Oshkosh Convention and Visitor's Bureau. Not much mention of those folks, who the media seemed to have no trouble locating for their comments.
http://www.misswisconsin.org/blog/2024/09/17/miss-wisconsin-organization-announces-new-home/
http://www.thenorthwestern.com/story/news/local/2024/09/17/miss-wisconsin-pageant-set-to-leave-oshkosh-after-61-years-moving-to-new-berlin/75261525007/
http://www.jsonline.com/story/communities/west/2024/09/17/miss-wisconsin-pageant-announces-move-from-oshkosh-to-new-berlin/75266513007/
So, again, today starts a new chapter in the long history of the Miss Wisconsin program that began in 1927 in Milwaukee.
Good luck in New Berlin, and getting the Waukesha Freeman and Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel to provide the same or even more media coverage of the state pageants each June than what the Oshkosh Northwestern daily newspaper provided since 1963.

- Sunday TV Alert -- Fan, 17:40:19 08/03/24 Sat
For those who forgot and all who wish to watch, the live telecast of the 2024 Miss USA pageant will be 7--9 pm Sunday evening from Los Angeles, California on the CW cable network.
Of course, we will wait and see if Miss Wisconsin-USA 2024, Victoria (Tori) Diane Trittin of Madison, who was crowned on Junne 15 in Verona, will do one (or two) better than Alexis Loomans.
Alexis Loomans of Waunakee (who was Miss Wisconsin Teen-USA 2018 and then Miss Wisconsin-USA 2023) got second runner-up last year in the 2023 Miss USA pageant held in Reno, Nevada...hard telling if Tori will do better by being named first runner-up or become the first Wisconsin entrant to win Miss USA.
Alexis made history last September as the highest ranked Wisconsin contestant at Miss USA when she tied Miss Wisconsin-USA 1974, Mary Lynn Cook of Wind Lake who also got second runner-up at the 1974 Miss USA over 49 years ago. Side note: Mary Lynn became the wife of future state senator Gary George, D-Milwaukee, who was the Miss USA and Miss Teen-USA state franchise holder in Wisconsin from 1982 to 1991.
Good luck Tori at Miss USA which will air 7--9 pm on Sunday night. Then watch Inside Edition on Monday night for post-pageant coverage on this national syndicated entertainment program.

Sympathy to the family and friends of Mary (Mary Beth) Elizabeth Dibble Haubrich, who was Miss Kenosha in 1961.
Mary Beth passed away after a month-long illness at age 82 on August 1, 2024.
While in her freshman year at UW Extension-Kenosha, she was encouraged to enter the 1961 Miss Kenosha pageant with the simple hopes of winning scholarship money for college. As her family noted in Mary Beth's obituary, "to her surprise, she won the pageant and thus entered the Miss Wisconsin pageant in June of 1961".
While they had the date of the 1961 Miss Wisconsin pageant incorrect (it was actually held on July 8, 1961 at Mary Bradford High School in Kenosha, where she was a 1960 graduate), it is true that brunette vocalist Mary Beth placed as first runner-up to Miss Eau Claire, Diane Margaret Anderson, who was crowned as Miss Wisconsin 1961 (the third of four Miss Wisconsin state winners to be crowned in Kenosha (1959-1962).
A funeral service for Mary Beth was held last Saturday afternoon (August 24th, 2024) at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

- Happy 100th anniversary -- Milw, 10:24:33 09/06/24 Fri
It was exactly 100 years ago today, when Wisconsin had the very first entrant in the Miss America competition held in Atlantic City, New Jersey.
Today, September 6, 2024, marks the 100th year anniversary when Miss Milwaukee 1924, Clara Ethel Koehler had competed for the coveted national title of Miss America 1924 on Saturday, September 6, 1924.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Miss_America_1924
The fourth annual Miss America bathing beauty competition had the largest number, 83, entrants of any pageant before and since then. Clara, a farm-girl from Jackson County, make the top 15 semi-finalists.
There have been ten decades of many women to represent Wisconsin at Miss America, but where is and was only one Clara Koehler, who also happened to be the very first crowned Miss Milwaukee winner back in April 1924.
Happy 100th year milestone centennial anniversary.

Sympathy to the family and friends of Laura Janette Golden Hill, age 82, of Texarkana, Texas, who died three days ago on August 24, 2024 at home in Texas.
http://www.texarkanafuneralhome.com/obituary/laura-hill
Laura was born on April 10, 1942 to Jack and Jessie (McKeehan) Golden in Atlanta, Texas. She later took advice of her Wisconsin-native mother to attend UW-Madison where she majored in communications and marketing.
While there in Madison, the 5-foot-tall Laura was named first runner-up to Miss Wisconsin-USA 1962, Sherri Mathson, a year after Laura was third runner-up to Karen Reisweber, Miss Wisconsin-USA 1961.
While never shy to brag about her Texas roots and fondness for yellow roses (of Texas), pretty-blonde Laura would have been a great Miss Wisconsin-USA.

- Meet Miss Wisconsin Sweetheart 2024 -- Fan, 13:30:07 08/14/24 Wed
In case anyone wishes to know, two days ago an announcement told of who Wisconsin's entrant will be in the 2024 Miss National Sweetheart competition pageant, scheduled for August 28--September 2, in Hoopeston, Illinois.
Meet Allison Lucinda Wisinski of Stevens Point, who was appointed as the 2024 Miss Wisconsin Sweetheart and will travel to Hoopeston to represent Wisconsin in the annual pageant.
Allison is not new to being appointed to compete in pageants, as she was the $900.000-paid appointed Miss Stevens Point last year, and in late March 2024, she was again an appointed state entrant for Miss Wisconsin competing as Miss Northwoods, a defunct northern Wisconsin regional pageant that ended in 2011 that began in 1992.
On June 20, Allison won the second and final Miss Wisconsin 2024 preliminary talent competition by singing "Don't Rain on My Parade" but did not place among the announced semi-finalists two days later at the 2024 Miss Wisconsin pageant in Oshkosh.
Good luck Allison, do something that no Wisconsin entrant has done in Hoopeston since Constance (Connie) Susan Hays in 1971---win the national title and returning home with the Miss National Sweetheart crown!
On Monday, August 12, the Miss National Sweetheart pageant posted the twenty contestants (appointed entrant photos and their state abbreviations) with this Instagram posted caption (click link below):

If you see this posting in time today, and want to attend, there will be two shows presented by the Kids From Wisconsin at the Overture Center (on State Street) over in Madison today, August 16.
These two shows today are the very last of their 2024 season which included 11 consecutive days of performances of their 90-minute show at the Wisconsin State Fair in West Allis earlier this month.
At 4:00 pm a free show for those who are autistic, have disabilities and vision issues. See link here:
http://autismsouthcentral.org/event/kids-from-wisconsin-08-16-2024/#:~:text=August%2016%20%40%203%3A30%20pm&text=Join%20us%20as%20they%20put,the%20Overture%20Center%27s%20Capitol%20Theatre!&text=3%3A30%20–%204pm%20check%20in,to%20touch%20and%20feel!)
Then tonight at 7:00 pm is the very final show. See details here as modestly-priced tickets are still available:
http://tickets.overture.org/kidsfromwisconsin/10265?queueittoken=e_247safetynet~q_7df51c41-8727-43fa-8fbc-5e9e6de22a99~ts_1723825323~ce_true~rt_safetynet~h_9ae77c70c2d5157ec664dcf6bf23cf1c35fb9d3693a03094d59965b59d29cf0b
There just may likely be a future Miss La Crosse/Oktoberfest or Miss Onalaska and Miss Milwaukee among this year's group of talented women performers.
If at the show, keep an eye on sopranos Makayla Taylor of La Crosse County, dressed in green during a Broadway production number from Shrek, as well as Izabel Nettey, a native of Menomonee Falls. Both future pageant prospects.
http://www.kidsfromwi.org/cast
But interestingly (and totally shocking considering who the Kids From Wisconsin are and how many talented women from all over Wisconsin has joined this entertainment tour group), the last member to compete in the Miss America-Miss Wisconsin program was exactly 30 years ago when four-year Kids from Wisconsin member Laura Voss was Miss Green Bay and became Miss Wisconsin 2024.
Enjoy the show in Madison today.

- The days of Mandi's troubles may now be over -- Milw, 06:45:26 06/23/24 Sun
Well, one of the biggest and sometimes unexpected big pit-falls when you suddenly over-night become a public figure and gain publicity, people will suddenly know a lot more about you than you ever thought they would or could.
Mandi Genord is waking up this early Sunday morning, June 23, with a Miss Wisconsin-supplied tour vehicle, a front page coronation story in the Oshkosh Northwestern newspaper, and a crown that she will keep at least until January, and longer if she does not become Miss America.
And Mandi is also waking up to the news that this Miss Wisconsin victory is probably the one bright-spot in her life the last two years other than her well-deserved graduation last month from the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa, Alabama.
Its been one scandal and tragic news after another the last three years, beginning with earning a speeding ticket in Green Lake County at the time of her 20th birthday, and following that. her maternal grandfather Patrick Glenn McFarland suddenly died at age 75, right before Mandi's 21st birthday.
And two months later, April 2023, her mother Laura filed divorce papers on her con-man husband, Jason Genord.
I guess Mandi's mom had about enough of seeing her husband Jason on the local tv newscasts and his police mug-shot in the newspapers for scamming the elderly and unsuspecting future gullible clients.
It only took the authorities a few weeks with a handful of arrest warrants, some still hanging on the door of their Montello house, for Jason Genord to be summoned with a 14-count charge in separate cases in Marquette County Circuit Court with two counts of theft by contractor, burglary, bail jumping, and transferring encumbered property between $5,000 and $10,000 in value, all as felonies, while Laura and Mandi "got out of Dodge" and literally moved to Dodge County where they now have a home in Beaver Dam.
http://wcca.wicourts.gov/caseDetail.html?caseNo=2023CF000731&countyNo=56&index=0&mode=details
Then came the FBI with a search warrant, and God-forbid if the investigators touched any of Mandi's prized evening gowns or crowns.
So, maybe the Miss Wisconsin crown and happy memories of June 22nd will be at least one pleasant moment for this family plagued with dozens of personal and legal issues---enough to make one wonder, where will the Genord family move next?
.

Fyi that the Genords are not divorced. Yes, a filing was made but never followed thru on. Probably just a ruse as attorneys were never hired. Also, look thru social media as there are plenty of pictures of the two living it up on expensive vacations and looking like there's not a care in the world. Life is good!

- Miss Wisconsin vs Miss Wisconsin-USA -- Fan, 20:52:30 06/24/24 Mon
Is it the responsibility for the contestant being interviewed in the media (television, radio, and/or newspaper) or the director who likely scheduled or at least allowed for a press interview with a Miss Wisconsin contestant to inform or correct reporters when they say Miss Wisconsin-USA or Miss USA instead of Miss Wisconsin or Miss America?
First we got this Madison tv station which had Miss Madison and Miss Madison's Teen on for an on-air live interview. If you look, they say on the tv screen:
A new Miss Wisconsin will be crowned next week, and two Miss Madison winners speak about competing for Miss Wisconsin USA.
http://www.channel3000.com/video/miss-madison-and-miss-madison-teen-set-to-compete-for-title-of-miss-wisconsin/video_6121972e-a941-5c41-8189-1f124aa0979f.html
Both Halle and Natalie were in Oshkosh last week, not in Verona where the 2024 Miss Wisconsin-USA contest was held.
No one corrected the tv folks/hosts on saying Miss Wisconsin USA, and it is still on the website video now almost two weeks later where they could make a belated correction.
Then we got this surprising news, Mandi Genord is going to Miss USA in August, well she might, but she won't be representing Wisconsin the competition no matter what this Janesville Gazette reporter says here in this Monday, June 24 article:
"Genord now goes on to compete in the 73rd annual Miss USA pageant in Los Angeles on Sunday, Aug. 4. If Genord were to be crowned Miss USA, Smith would step up to become Miss Wisconsin."
http://www.gazettextra.com/news/local/janesvilles-catherine-smith-named-miss-wisconsin-first-runner-up/article_91e4712a-3266-11ef-865a-93985dae8550.html
As Donald Trump would say, "Fake news", or fake pageant news. But whatever one wishes to call it, it was incorrect, and Catherine Smith knows better than to not correct reporter Katlyn (Katie) Garcia or say that Mandi would advance to Miss USA, and this reporter to not fact-check before publishing this nonsense. Thoughts? Catherine's director is Sha-Nita, like she could not provide accurate information or correct this reporter when this June 24 became public?

After being named Miss West Allis 1959, at age 18, Judy competed in the 1959 Miss Wisconsin pageant on July 11, 1959, the first year (of the eventual four) that the state pageant was staged in Kenosha.
The eleven other statewide entrants surprised Judy by being named Miss Congeniality. "I was very nervous during the competition" Judy Mages Clark said in 2019. "The most memorable moment of the entire time being in Kenosha was receiving the Miss Congeniality award from the other contestants.” Judy did not place in the state contest.
Winning the 1959 Miss Wisconsin title and a $1,000 Pepsi-Cola scholarship was petite Miss Sheboygan, Mary Alice Fox, 19, a brunette who just completed her sophomore year at Valparaiso University in Valparaiso, Indiana. The comedy dancer would later be named first runner-up to Miss America 1960, Lynda Lee Mead of Mississippi, then the highest ranked Wisconsin woman in the Miss America pageant program.
We shall remember Judith Ann Mages Clark, 1940--2024.

Well…
It’s arrival day for the Miss WI contestants.
I think it’s safe to say by Lila’s post she is more than ready to be done with this year of service. Trinity has been quite quiet on social media. Her mom hasn’t been though! Was Trinity silenced over something?
I have been watching social media but have not seen anything about an arrival ceremony. Does anyone know when it is or where it is happening at?

Thoughts on the latest podcast with Raeanna and Lila?
As a current title holder I’m kind of shocked on how angry Lila sounds! And if there are things happening why isn’t she telling us titleholders so we can be prepared in the event that we win?
Also, why did either one of them think a month before State would be a good time to release this podcast? Thanks for the added stress Raeanna and Lila! Sisterhood is clearly on the forefront of your mind…or is it gaining followers?

- Mental Health Awareness Month -- A Former Title Holder, 08:06:35 05/13/24 Mon
WOW! To say that I am proud of Miss USA and USA Teen is an understatement.
As a former local title holder here in Wisconsin I have to say that I have heard it, seen it, and read it FIRST hand the way that we are title holders are treated and talked about by some of the directors.
Some of the former directors and even current directors it is a wonder as to how they have even gotten selected or were allowed to be directors in the first place. If you are not here to build these young women up then why are you here? If you are not here to help these young women succeed, then why are you here? If you are not here to provide them guidance and suggestions then why are you here?
I really think that the Miss Wisconsin BOD should have a closer look and say as to who is a part of the local level directors. I have seen and heard from some of the other local title holders what their directors have said to them with preparing for Miss Wisconsin. In the day of cell phones and social media I am shocked that they would speak to their contestants the way that they do. All I can say is that one local organization could be in for an interesting year if their title holder spoke up about her director and how she has been treated. Not every director is in it for the right reason!
If you are a director and reading this...remember EVERYTHING you text to your contestant is shared amongst the group of contestants...even to us formers. We all still talk to each other and after Miss Wisconsin week...one of you might just be exposed!

- Miss USA 2023 resigns -- Milw, 12:58:26 05/08/24 Wed
Breaking news all over, Miss USA 2023, Noelia Voigt resigns. The border-hopper from Florida who won Miss Utah-USA after moving to that state two months earlier just can't handle all of the stress and demands of being Miss USA. When has anyone seen her anywhere and on tv as Miss USA??
Now....if first runner-up Miss Hawaii-USA (Savannah) wishes to not assume the Miss USA title, then second runner-up Miss Wisconsin-USA, Alexis Maria Loomans of Waunakee can take the title and become the first-ever Wisconsin woman to hold the Miss USA title---but not for too long. In three months Miss USA (whoever she is) will crown Miss USA 2024 on August 4, 2024 in Burbank, California. Regardless of what happens Alexis will crown Miss Wisconsin-USA 2024 on June 15 in Verona.

Condolences to the family and friends of these six noted Wisconsin people (by alphabetical order) that were involved in pageantry who died since February 2024:
1---Nancy Ann Peterson Bekkedal, 72, of Viroqua, Wisconsin died on Friday, February 2, 2024. She was active with the local Miss Viroqua pageant in Vernon County (which was never a local preliminary for Miss Wisconsin).

2---Linda Deborah Chambers Hughes, age 71, died on March 1, 2024. She was named first runner-up in the 1971 Miss Racine pageant, making Linda the first African American to place in this Miss Wisconsin local preliminary competition.

(Note--among the contestants in 1971 were Jacqueline Jean Matson (chosen Miss Racine 1971) and Carol Kelly, who later became the wife of award-winning UW-Madison basketball coach (2001--2015) William Francis "Bo" Ryan, Jr.)
3---Sally Joan "Joni" Waller Jaeger, age 87, formerly of Madison, Wisconsin, died on Saturday, March 16, 2024. She was Miss New Jersey in the 1955 Miss America pageant, and later moved to Madison, Wisconsin where she was one of first female real estate agents in Madison.
Recently, she relocated to Woodbury, Minnesota to be closer to family, and died there last month. All during her life, she was a fan of pageants within the Miss America program.

4---Mary Louise (Mary Lou) Blanchette Lewis, 87, of Oshkosh, Wisconsin died on Sunday, April 14, 2024. The year before the Miss Wisconsin pageant moved from Kenosha to Oshkosh in 1963, Mary Lou was already the producer and director of the Miss Oshkosh pageant.
She spent 50 years with the Miss Wisconsin Organization as the usher/usherette committee chairperson and coordinated the tickets sales for the state pageant each June, and she was a noted pageant historian. In recent years she was a gold patron member of the Miss Wisconsin scholarship fund.
Her husband, Richard Lewis, who died in May 2014, was the Miss Wisconsin executive director from 1973 to 1974.

5---Ellen M. Overson Stey, age 79, of Elkhorn, Wisconsin, died on Wednesday, February 21, 2024. She was a UW-Madison student at the time she was the Madison entrant in the 1963 Miss Wisconsin-USA pageant, where she was named as the second runner-up.

6---Gwendolyn "Wendi" Rose Schuster, age 58, of Sun Prairie, Wisconsin, died on Sunday, March 20, 2024. In 1995, the Racine native was chosen as Ms. Wisconsin, the first ever disabled contestant to win that state title.
During the time of her reign as Ms. Wisconsin 1995, and long after she had crowned her successor, Wendi spoke with the media, visited schools and provided inspirational addresses to audiences around the state. She spoke about the hazards of drunk driving, losing her mother, having a leg amputated, and surviving breast cancer---and still being able to live a worthwhile life.

President Joe Biden came to Madison for a presidential campaign stop yesterday (April 8th), and there was one person there who was more interesting in confronting him rather than listening to what the president had to say while he was briefly in Madison.
Liberal left-wing radical protester Miss Beloit 2023, Angelica Chapman-Skyes was there and she made sure she that was heard, at least on local television news, when she appeared on WKOW Channel 27 News last night.
We should note, she and her leftist trouble-makers could have had their protest on the grounds of the Madison College or on the nearby sidewalk on other days of the week---not only during the time Madison was graced with a presidential visit. But to be on local tv, one must be where the president is or otherwise your protest efforts won't draw media attention. At least Angelica is the now former not current Miss Beloit.

Sympathy to the family of Tiffany Ann Thornburgh DeBrabant, age 54, who died on February 13, 2024, at her home in Elkhorn, Wisconsin.
While her obituary does not mention it, Tiffany was the first runner-up in the 1986 Miss Wisconsin Teen-USA pageant, and later was named the second runner-up in the 1989 Miss Wisconsin-USA pageant (where she won the Miss Photogenic award). Both state pageants were held in Milwaukee at the Pfister Hotel.
Tiffany was also the first runner-up in a Milwaukee beer company bikini swimsuit contest in 1990, which drew 35 statewide competitors, including Sherri Leigh Baxter (who was previously Miss Wisconsin-USA 1989), who got fourth runner-up in the swimsuit beer promotion show.
But Tiffany was not all beauty without brains. She graduated with high honors at the now-closed Cardinal Stritch University, and she dedicated over 29 years of her life as a certified nursing assistant at Lakeland Health Care Center in Elkhorn, Wisconsin, her hometown. She will be missed.

- Congratulations Miss Kenosha 2024 -- Milw, 13:55:44 02/18/24 Sun
Last night, Grace Chapa of Kenosha was selected as Miss Kenosha 2024 after performing a French horn solo for talent. The Carthage College senior became the first Latina to be named Miss Kenosha after last year's winner, Willow Ybre Newell of Racine, became the first black woman to win the city crown.
Placing and winning awards yesterday among the majority of first-time Miss Kenosha contestants were:
*Kate Nidy (First runner-up, Overall Talent award, and On Stage Question award)
*Mariah Tianna Bader (Second runner-up---who had the Miss USAAmbassador Wisconsin 2021-2022 title),
*Jordan Elizabeth Richards (Miss Congeniality)
*Jada Robinson (Promotions award)
*Kyah Jernigan (Spirit of Miss Kenosha award)
Former Miss Beloit 2019 and appointed Miss Milwaukee 2023, Abby Michelle Miller did not compete in the Miss Kenosha pageant last evening. Congratulations Grace and all of the contestants who appeared on stage.
And best wishes to Grace this June when she will attempt to be the second-only Miss Kenosha to win the Miss Wisconsin crown. The first was former Miss Racine 1984 and Miss Kenosha 1989, Kimberly Jean Totdahl of Racine, who was a double preliminary winner at Oshkosh, and was named Miss Wisconsin 1989, before she later became Miss Wisconsin-USA 1991.

How does former Miss Beloit, Abby Miller (who last year moved to the Milwaukee area just to compete there) qualify for competing in the 2024 Miss Kenosha pageant next Saturday (February 17)?
Did they open it to become a state open or southern Wisconsin regional competition pageant? Or did she move to Kenosha? By the way, when reviewing the head-shots of the twelve contestants, some of them are quite rough.....Jada Robinson is in dire need of lipstick application training, and a couple of them look like that the just got out of bed or the shower.
Lets hope the new Miss Kenosha next Saturday night wins a complete make-over prize package, as at least nine of them need it plus an hair-styling, an additional six coats of make-up, and teeth whitening.

Alexis Ullrich, Baraboo *
Eliana Sine, Portage
Madeline Lehmann, Holmen

And remember what was posted here back on July 13, 2023 regarding Cassidy competing for this title tonight, read here:
http://www.voy.com/136833/40560.html
The Miss Northern Lights pageant was held for three years, ending in 2018 along with the Miss Northern Light's Teen pageant, which began in 2017. The current titleholders from 2018, are Ryann Nicole Swanson (Miss), and Mandi Genord (Teen) who is competing for the Miss title tonight, after placing first runner-up to Miss Wisconsin 2023 last year while competing as Miss Rock River Valley.
Mandi, who was Miss Wisconsin's Teen 2018, will be busy tonight, but she will or should have her mind on tomorrow's Miss America pageant on Sunday in Orlando, Florida in case Lila becomes the second consecutive Miss Wisconsin after Grace Stanke to win the Miss America title. Mandi would assume the state title should she accept....yet, she may have to resign Miss Northern Lights if she wins that tonight.
Good luck to all contestants who made it to Stevens Point to compete for the chance to advance to the state pageant in Oshkosh this June.

- Happy anniversary Grace -- GBfan, 10:26:48 12/17/23 Sun
Last night, Saturday, December 16, 2023 marked the one-year anniversary of when Wisconsin got its third Miss America winner in the person of Grace Stanke of Wausau:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Miss_America_2023
One year ago, Miss Wisconsin won the coveted national crown, and Grace still has another month to reign as Miss America until she crowns her 2024 successor in Orlando, Florida on January 14, 2024.
Hard telling if current Miss Wisconsin, Lila Szyryj, will accomplish what Miss Wisconsin 1973, Judith (Judy) Hieke did 50 years ago--get named first runner-up and almost become the back-to-back Miss Wisconsin winners with then-outgoing Miss America 1973, Terry Anne Meeuwsen. Terry almost crowned a Wisconsin woman as Miss America 1974. Judy was also a preliminary swimsuit award which Terry won the year before also with a talent victory, making Terry a double-preliminary winner in Atlantic City.
But good luck Lila next month.

- Sunday comments -- CL, 11:24:57 12/10/23 Sun
The pageant in Madison last night was a nice show and Halle will be a great Miss Madison and likely a sure-bet to make top ten (11) at Miss Wisconsin next June.
However, there was drama after the crowning last night right in the auditorium when one contestant was overheard saying to an older woman "I got nothing out of this" (as if she expected even the losers would win a $1,000 scholarship and $500.00 in prizes).
And then people could hear pageant director Tara Pizer yell out to Jeff because she heard from someone that he allegedly told Susan Foches that she was fat.
I guess the memo from top Miss America officials about "No fat-shaming at pageants" got to Tara and she took charge. We could not hear exactly what Jeff told Tara but nothing came of it and hard-telling what was really the truth and back story. I asked others and no one heard him saying anything about being fat, but then we did shadow either of them when at the pageant. But over-all it was a good pageant. There were a couple of the contestants (shockingly past entrants) who really need some consulting and wardrobe assistance, but all 18 contestants did a nice job.

Sandra (known to many as Sandy), who died of cancer a week ago today on Saturday, November 18, 2023, was happily employed at the local Emerson Motors in Sturgeon Bay, and she was a long-time volunteer on the Miss Door County Pageant committee.
Her daughter, Heather James Pierre LaVine was Miss Door County 1998.

- Thanksgiving Day TV Alert -- Milw, 09:46:29 11/22/23 Wed
You all have two chances to see Wisconsin's Miss America 2023, Grace Stanke appearing in the nationally-televised 2023 Macy's Thanksgiving Day parade tomorrow, November 23.
Grace will be on the "Spirit of America" float during the New York City parade which will air on CBS tomorrow morning, 9:00 am, as well as on NBC at 9--Noon.
Wisconsin's Kalahari Resort, based in Lake Delton, will have for the sixth consecutive year (minus the 2020 COVID-19 pandemic cancelation) a float, and Milwaukee County's Greendale High School band will be featured (providing network tv producers don't edit them out in favor of some big name production to be seen instead).
NBC will also re-air the Macy parade at 2 pm to 5:00 pm Wisconsin time after the national dog beauty pageant---which is not a contest for ugly pageant women (called dogs, these are canine beauties hoping to win a crown and title for their owner and show-ring presenter holding the leash)!!
http://www.trendhunter.com/trends/dog-pageant
Here is last year's real winner, a real dog for sure:
http://cbsaustin.com/news/local/austin-coffee-shop-hosts-beauty-pageant-for-the-citys-most-charmingly-unattractive-dogs
Hard telling how much parade tv time Grace will get on CBS or NBC, which seems to be more concerned about plugging NBC shows and entertainment plugs with celebrity visits with Savannah, Hoda, and Al Roker.
Again, CBS tomorrow morning, while NBC has two parade showings, 9 am and then 2:00 pm in the afternoon on Thursday. Hope it is not too cold in Manhattan for this Wausau girl to wave to the parade spectators and television audience without gloves. Happy holiday.

- Saturday TV Alert today -- Milw, 12:42:03 11/18/23 Sat
Later today, pageant fans in Wisconsin who get the American Spanish language cable channel Telemundo, will be able to watch the live telecast of the 2023 Miss Universe pageant staged in El Salvador, Central America, which last hosted the international pageant in 1975.
The pageant will air at 7:00 pm tonight with an added bonus of a two-hour special pre-show also airing on Telemundo at 5--7 pm tonight, Saturday. Enjoy and see if a current Miss USA can win the Miss Universe title for a second consecutive time.
If Sarasota, Florida native Noelia Voigt (now briefly from Utah) wins Miss Universe tonight, then Miss USA first runner-up Miss Hawaii-USA, Savannah Mar'i Gankiewicz declines to assume the Miss USA title, the new Miss USA can then be Miss Wisconsin-USA, Alexis Maria Loomans of Waunakee---the second runner-up, if she accepts the title. Good luck.

It is said that the 2024 Miss Wausau pageant show is scheduled for this Saturday (November 11th), and this is the first local pageant for Wausau.
Yet oddly, there is already a reigning Miss Wausau, as shown here in these two links, including one which shows Alicia A. Hoffmann of nearby Athens, Wisconsin, wearing a Miss Wausau banner at a charity event.
Interestingly, they listed as Contestant #1, Alicia Hoffman for this weekend on the Miss Wausau Facebook page. Did they change rules to allow winners to compete for the same local title for consecutive year?
http://www.waow.com/news/miss-wausau-in-need-of-donations-for-homeless-shelter-drive/article_a9b42b4c-f009-11ed-a506-27c1f964e85e.html
http://www.facebook.com/photo/?fbid=926690771993582&set=pcb.926691138660212
By the way, Alicia's surname is spelled wrong on the Miss Wausau Facebook page. It is Hoffmann not Hoffman, perhaps the local Wausau pageant directors might want to get that fixed?

The Miss America and Miss USA fan message board forum today notes that Wisconsin's Miss America 2023, Grace Stanke will be scheduled to appear in the 97th Macy's Thanksgiving Day parade in New York City.
The annual parade will be Thursday morning, November 23 and airing on NBC. However, that posting did not mention that the parade also airs on CBS, so fans can catch Grace during the CBS coverage without all of the time-wasted song-and-dance numbers that NBC has each year during the parade (in front of the Macy's department store, of course).
So, don't be a turkey and forget to watch for Grace, she will be on CBS and NBC on November 23, 2023.

- 90th anniversary remembered -- Fan, 12:36:13 09/10/23 Sun
Last night, marked the 90th year anniversary of the 1933 Miss America pageant that was held in Atlantic City, New Jersey on Saturday, September 9, 1933 (the date landed on a Saturday as it did this year, exactly nine decades later).
Competing as Miss Wisconsin was petite brunette Marie Marguerite Huebner, who 14 days shy of turning 20 years old.
The Portage, Wisconsin clothing store clerk placed among the pageant's 18 semi-finalists, while the youngest entrant, Miss Connecticut, Marian Rita Bergeron, 15, of West Haven, Connecticut was named Miss America 1933 (and she remains as the only New England entrant to win the Miss America pageant to this date).
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Miss_America_1933
Marie won the state crown on August 18, 1933 in Cambridge, technically in the Town of Oakland. The pageant was the first and only time the Miss Wisconsin pageant was held in a park on the shores of a lake, and the first and only time Jefferson County hosted the state Miss America qualifier. And Marie, at 5'4" remains as one of the shortest winners of the Miss Wisconsin title. She died on February 15, 2007, at age 93.
So, in memory of this state's second Miss Wisconsin (Marie Huebner) (the first Miss Wisconsin was in 1927) and all of the contestants in the 1933 Miss America pageant, happy 90th anniversary!!

- The return of two Northern Wisconsin pageants -- Milw, 15:10:55 07/13/23 Thu
Perhaps call it the "Grace Stanke" affect, or maybe something more plotting and sinister, but two pageants in northern Wisconsin to send winners to Miss Wisconsin next year will take place. News to you??
Entries for the Miss Wausau Area and Miss Wausau Area's Teen 2024 pageant, scheduled for Saturday, November 11, 2023, are being accepted. The dual competition is organized by Grace's mother, Jenny Stanke, and you can read this online news notice from June 30 for details and information:
http://wausaupilotandreview.com/2023/06/30/miss-wausau-area-miss-wausau-areas-teen-competitions-seek-contestants/
Of course, Grace Marie Stanke is from Wausau, and was the self-appointed Miss Wausau's Outstanding Teen 2016, then later Miss Wisconsin's Outstanding Teen 2017 (when she was Miss Harbor Cities' Outstanding Teen 2017); followed by her winning Miss Madison in 2020, then Miss Wisconsin 2022, and Miss America 2023--the latter two thanks to her being named Miss Badgerland at the 2022 Miss Wisconsin Sweeps pageant in Racine. And you can bet your bottom dollar Grace will be at her mother's pageant rather than sitting on the sunny Florida beaches in the middle of November!!
For pageant history buffs, the Miss Wausau pageant had a good stretch from 1963 to 1974; and previously had Miss Wausau winners compete for Miss Wisconsin in 1927, 1953, and 1956. And now Miss Wausau is back again 50 years later for 2024.
Maybe Grace has a younger sister or has friends in Wausau who wish to follow her pageant footsteps for reason for the sudden urge (after five decades) by Jenny to hold a Miss Wisconsin preliminary in Wausau? The competition franchise for miss and teen are for any qualified entrants living, working, or attending school in Marathon County.
If not a Grace Stanke conspiracy for Miss Wausau, then surely it appears that the Miss Northern Lights pageant, scheduled for exactly six months from today, on January 13, 2024, is suddenly returning to have former Miss Wisconsin Rapids 2022, Cassidy Sairs win that state open pageant in Stevens Point.
To many it was no secret that former Miss Wisconsin Rapids 2009, Kathryn (Katie) Williams, and her helpful pals, put on the first Miss Northern Lights in 2016 just for Wisconsin Rapids pageant gals have another chance to get to Miss Wisconsin. And it worked, does Danielle Moon and Ryann Swanson come to mind?
However, that regime ended in 2018 with former Miss Wisconsin Rapids 2017, Ryann Swanson of Wisconsin Rapids, winning the third and final Miss Northern Lights pageant. By the way, she is the older sister of reigning Miss Oshkosh 2023, Taylor Swanson of Wisconsin Rapids.
After the inaugural year, 2016, they added the Miss Northern Light's Outstanding Teen competition for 2017 and 2018, and it was then when Mandi Genord became Miss Wisconsin's Outstanding Teen 2018. Last month Mandi was named first runner-up to Miss Wisconsin 2023, competing as Miss Rock River Valley during her first year participating in the Miss Wisconsin system.
However, regardless of the hidden ambitions and motives, exactly six months from now, is the return of the Miss Northern Lights competition on January 13— If they get enough entrance to have a show.
And lets predict today, a half a year away, that Cassidy will win that pageant, providing she doesn't have the audacity to alter those plans by competing for and win either Miss Rock River Valley or Miss South Central in Beloit the week before Miss Northern Lights. Now that would surely ruin the Miss Northern Lights scheme, right?
But nevertheless, welcome Miss Wausau and Miss Northern Lights to the Miss Wisconsin program for 2024. May each last longer than one year. It should be noted that both pageants have established a Facebook page, so they are off to a good start; however only the Miss Northern Lights pageant is listed on the events portion of the Miss Wisconsin website:

But seriously, she couldn't send a couple thousand dollars to support the program. There were many former Miss Wisconsin's in attendance, and it was touching how David invited them all back on stage when the new Miss Wisconsin was announced. She couldn't have flown in to be a part of this anniversary celebration??? She would never have the life she has now if it hadn't been for becoming Miss Wisconsin. I don't understand how an individual can be so completely dismissive of an event that truly changed the trajectory of their life.

They were actually kind of interesting, and if you look, Terry Anne Meeuwsen competed for Miss Wisconsin twice, coincidentally on the same June day in Oshkosh five years apart.
And additionally, that both future Miss Wisconsin and Miss America winners (Laura Kaeppeler and then Grace Stanke) both won their state titles in Oshkosh on June 18th. That is uncanny. Why did that little history/trivia feature stop?

Whoever wins tonight, has the extra burden to be the second consecutive Miss Wisconsin to be named Miss America to succeed Grace Stanke of Wausau.

I guess I would pick goth over someone who can't even shave her legs and arm pits. Good goin' Lila. With two preliminary wins, the chances are more likely that we will have a gal going to Miss America looking like a hairy-armed ungroomed NBA-player.
Maybe Lady Schick or Gillette sanitary products will be the sponsor of Miss America this year.

- People's choice award -- Milw, 14:04:32 06/15/23 Thu
Are they still doing the online public People's Choice award--popularity contest, where the winner gets named into the top ten, thus a top 11? Have not seen anything if that will be conducted as in years past, especially since I am not on social media.
And if the winner is already judged as a semi-finalists by the judges during preliminary competitions, will it just remain the top ten on Saturday, or would the next placed contest winner get the vote to be the 11th semi-finalist? How does this all work in various situations?

- Alice in Dairyland 2023 finals -- Fan, 20:38:06 05/12/23 Fri
Most here probably have no clue let alone attended an Alice in Dairyland finals event, but tomorrow evening is the 2023 Alice in Dairyland competition to select the state's 76th Alice in Dairyland who will ably promote all of Wisconsin's agricultural industries and tourism.
On Saturday, May 13, these six women will compete for the chance to succeed Alice in Dairyland 2022, Taylor Paige Schaefer of Franksville (Racine County) who won her title last May over in Madison:
*Ashley Hagenow, Poynette
*Shannon Marie Lamb, Dane
*Lydia M. Luebke, Kiel
*Jacquelyn (Jackie) Elaine Rosenbush, Sarona
*Charitee Logan Seebecker, Mauston
*Jodie L. Weyland, Neenah
All are first-time Alice finalists, except for Charitee Seebecker who competed last year. The big bets are for Charitee or Ashley Hagenow to win the 2023 Alice title, with third place being Jodie Weyland. See photos and biographies here and do your Alice in Dairyland prediction.
http://www.wisfarmer.com/story/news/2023/03/10/six-will-vie-for-the-76th-alice-in-dairyland-title/69995551007/
In January 2023, Jacquelyn Rosenbush of Washburn County concluded her year as Wisconsin's Fairest of the Fair. Four former Wisconsin's Fairest of the Fair has later won the coveted Alice in Dairyland title and job since the Alice program began in 1948.
Good luck to all six Alice finalists tomorrow night, 7:30 p.m., at the Grand Geneva Resort in Lake Geneva, and congratulations to Taylor Schaefer for an outstanding year of service which technically concludes on July 5, 2023 when the next Alice assumes the $45,000 state-taxpayer position, and a new fuel-economy automobile.

I've loved the Instagram takeovers so far! It really feels like we get to know the candidates and hear them speak about their day and almost helps envision the kind of Miss Wisconsin they'd be.
Biggest standout by far has been Jenna Zeihen - she is wonderful!! Biggest surprise was Sarah Dahdouh- I think she is beautiful and is super successful, but she came off a bit fake in her takeover :(
Who else is everyone looking forward to seeing?! I'm looking forward to Lila, Mandi, and Paige!

- Miss Wisconsin-USA 2023 this weekend -- Fan, 10:00:39 05/05/23 Fri
If anyone forgot, and perhaps many who read this Wisconsin pageant message board did, as there has been no posted comments or questions lately about this, the 2023 Miss Wisconsin-USA and Miss Wisconsin Teen-USA pageants will be staged this weekend in Fond du Lac (a return to that city since the 2020 double state pageants were held in September 2019).
From review of the contestant pages, linked below, there are 25 in this year's Miss Wisconsin-USA competition and 20 teenagers paid through the nose in accepting the high entrance fees to take part in the Miss Wisconsin Teen-USA event.
It appears that there are only two cross-over Miss Wisconsin title-holders that had previously competed in Oshkosh that are among this year's Miss Wisconsin-USA contestant listing, and no previous Miss Wisconsin's Outstanding Teen state contestants are vying for either state pageant titles this weekend.
Returning Miss Wisconsin-USA entrant Haley Anya Schonter, 26, of Racine, was Miss Racine 2016, Miss Milwaukee 2018, and finally Miss Great Lakes 2019, but never placed at Miss Wisconsin in Oshkosh.
And also former Miss Northern Lights 2016 and Miss Seven Rivers 2018, Jessica Susan Hammer, 26, of Endeavor will also compete this weekend. As result of being named first runner-up to Miss Wisconsin 2018, Tianna Vanderhei in June 2018, Jessica represented Wisconsin in the 2018 Miss National Sweetheart pageant in Hoopeston, Illinois in September 2018, and placed among the top ten.
The 2023 state entrants are:
MISS 2023:
http://www.misswisconsinusa.com/wi-contestants-miss.html
TEEN 2023:
http://www.misswisconsinusa.com/wi-contestants-teen.html
Sadly, there are a few out-of-state border-hoppers competing and just a few returning entrants from the 2022 state pageant that was held in Middleton last May on Mother's Day.
Also, returning to compete this year is former Miss Wisconsin Teen-USA 2018, Alexis Maria Loomans, 21, of Waunakee.
It should be noted that the daughter of former Wisconsin lieutenant governor (2011--2019) Rebecca Ann Reed Kleefisch is hoping to follow her mother's footsteps. Rebecca was Miss Ohio Teen-USA 1994 and competed at Miss Teen-USA that year in Biloxi, Mississippi, but did not place. Now 29 years later, her daughter, Violet, will compete for Miss Wisconsin Teen-USA 2023 this weekend with the hopes of advancing to the Miss Teen-USA pageant.

Congratulations to outgoing Miss Wisconsin-USA 2022, Hollis Celeste Brown of Milwaukee/Savannah, Georgia, and Miss Wisconsin Teen-USA 2022, Sage Gundelly of Mequon (both first-time entrants in Wisconsin last year) who are completing their year-long reigns on Sunday afternoon.
Good luck to all participating this weekend (May 6 and 7, 2023) at the Fond du Lac Performing Arts Center at Fond du Lac High School in Fond du Lac.
