Subject: That is what I was thinking of posting on SB!! We were meant to eat meat. Maybe not so much of it as some people eat it now. Seriously, yesterday I took my kids to the institute of american indian studies museum. And we saw a movie on how important deer were and how the deer were hunted. So little guy(5 1/2) gets very sad at the thoughts of the deer dying. (He watches Zoobomafoo on PBS and knows all about animals becoming extinct) So I explained how the indian people needed deer for food and warm clothing and how the people would pray to the great spirit for a good hunt and then thank the deer for its body. At dinner last night my son want to say grace not necessarily a thank you god for this food. He wanted to know who else to thank for it. And since it was chicken divan we thanked the chicken, the broccoli, and the campbell soup company!!!

[> [> [> Actually, if you look at our teeth, we are *not* natural meat eaters. Our incisors are NOT fangs, which is what we'd have if we were meant to eat: look at lions, cats, most any carnivore. Our front teeth are just smaller versions of a rabbit's front teeth, flat and sharp at the bottom. Also, if you look at our digestive tracts, they are SIGNIFICANTLY different than that of a carnivore, or even a true omnivore. Carnivores (look at cheetahs, for ex.) have exceedingly short digestive tracts, so that the meat passes through them quickly. Herbivores, on the other hand, have exceedingly LONG tracts (ours are many many feet long, as you all know!). All I'm saying is if you want to eat meat, it's your decision. But strictly speaking, human anatomy does not support carnivorous eating (I'm not disputing our dietary history, I know humans have eaten meat for thousands, if not more more, years. Just our originial biology). -- Ginger, proud to be vegan, and very much RIGHT in the head :), 03:35:22 07/31/03 Thu

[> [> [> [> After having recently done a couple of months of an herbal cleanse because of intestinal troubles I was experiencing, I can attest to the fact that it is amazing what gets cleared out, and thus what we carry around without our being aware of it. A friend of mine likes to do occasional fasts, and she told of one time that she was fasting for many days. Even though she was not eating, her intestines continued to clean out daily. I'll spare you further detail, but it's safe to say that for most of us, our intestines are likely impacted with foods that just have not been digested. Let your imagination fill in the blanks.... I can also attest to how good I was feeling after only 2 months of eating vegan. However, old habits die hard and I am back to occasional meats and such. I admire Vegans because of the commitment and the effort required to eat that way in a society that does not support it. -- Lissa, 16:01:01 07/31/03 Thu
