Subject: The concerns about hormones and additives are very real and they do affect women especially in many ways. The hormones especially wreak havoc on our systems causing PMS & menopause to be more difficult to go through. We try to eat as much wild game as possible, it's waaay lower in fat, no hormones, much healthier overall. I don't mind the taste so it's not a problem for me. Most of the wild game we buy is from a taxidermist who hunts it himself. He uses the meat to feed his family, sells some and then what's left over from the animal, he sells at a reduced price to Native Americans in the area to use for clothing, furniture & their arts and crafts so they can make a living (sadly, this is all some of them have left of their culture). The hard part is going out to eat. Not very many restaurants have wild game. It's a dilema when one loves meat!

[> I believe humans are meant to eat everything, meaning they experience a lack of vitamins/minerals if they eat food of the same kind all the time. I canīt say that in a better way in English, sorry, I hope I make sense. As for me I feel best if I follow my moods. Sometimes I crave veggies, sometimes a steak. Listening to what my body needs seems to be working for me. I believe we are meant to eat various things to stay healthy. People often use the "old times" as an example and say way back in the past hunters were not that lucky mostly and so they had to eat green stuff, and human kind survived anyway. But were those people healthier than we are? As far as research goes they didnīt get very old. I think it is like with everything else in life, balance makes the difference. IMHO. -- Martina, 09:12:26 07/28/03 Mon

[> [> Hi Martina! That's a very good point about variety, I think whether you're a meat eater or a vegatrian variety in the diet is important to good health. Also, about the life-span of people, lucky for us it is getting longer! lol I think that is due to many things - our lfie is not as harsh and importantly - we have better medical care available to us now. As well as a better variety of foods. Plus we have more info on nutricion and brushing teeth and so forth! I've read articles on how keeping your teeth healthy actually effects your whole body in a much larger way than people realize. The hormones and additives in feed, farming etc. is a new thing in the past century or so. Factory Farming as well because mass production has become a way of life for most modern markets. That's also a very good point to listen to what you're body tells you, just like we all find our own path spiritually I think it's important to listen to our bodies in other ways as well. :) -- Linda in sw va, 13:34:15 07/28/03 Mon

[> [> [> Like just last night, my body was telling me to have a huge dish of ice cream, so I got in my car and went off to get it. Almond Joy is my new favorite-- coconut ice cream with chunks of almonds and chocolate. mmmm It probably wasn't organic milk, and the value of the calcium was most likely canceled out by the fat and sugar, but oh well. I am convinced that eating ice cream was one of the things I came back to earth for. Why should I deny my soul the quiet pleasure of such a wonderful invention? *G* The bottom line of this whole discussion is that we are all free to decide what we choose in life, food included. What works for me might not work for you, but that doesn't mean that one is right and the other is wrong. It sure is fun to discuss it all, though. Don't you think? -- Lissa, 14:56:33 07/28/03 Mon

[> [> [> [> Lissa, very cute! Yes, life is too short to pass up ice cream or any other little pleasures that catch our fancy. :) :) And of course I agree with you on each of us deciding what's best for us. My husband likes meat and my kids eat some, I'm not going to force them to change their diet, for one thing I think it's something they can decide in their own time much like religion.. -- sw va Linda, 18:38:06 07/28/03 Mon

[> [> [> [> Bwahahaha, you are absolutely right. Nothing bad about ice-cream anyway, once again itīs the balance. If youīd eat nothing else than ice-cream your body would probably donīt like it any more sooner or later anyway. Most of the time it protects us very well from doing the wrong thing. Thatīs what appetite and cravings are good for, right?*g* -- Martina, 13:54:40 07/29/03 Tue

[> [> [> Yes of course our easier life circumstances have a lot to do with the life span, although media nowadays makes us believe it is all about what we eat.*lol* Itīs a shame though how industrial modern food is. Meat aside, why the heck do they add all that sh$& to the food??? I just read on a package of "natural herbal" pills 5 types of chemical colors and sacharin (sugar substitute stuff) which is suspected to cause cancer. What does that have to do in a "natural" product? I just donīt get it. That makes me angry. -- Martina, 13:50:27 07/29/03 Tue

[> [> [> [> You know I just attended a seminar about this very topic the other day at my local health food store! They said a product only has to have so much (and it can be quite little) of a natrual ingredient to put the term 'natural' on their product label. It's very misleading! I'm always checking labels now. I don't know why they have to do it but I suspect a lot of it has to do with cutting costs. -- swvaLinda, 09:22:43 07/30/03 Wed

[> [> [> [> [> Probably. I was just wondering why they need to put artificial color to a herbal based pill for better sleep which turns out to be almost black anyway, and sugar substitute to something you swallow!*lol* It just makes no sense adding this stuff. What for??? It would save costs NOT to add anything. It is the same here, by the way, I always read what is in a product as well. -- Martina, 13:25:08 07/30/03 Wed
