I'm by no means an expert, but I would think that if she is in a lot of pain, growling would be a normal animal instinct. Plus, when she growled the firt time, you continued to "test" her, which could have made the pain worse - so the growling continued. Hugs to the bean girl. I agree that you do need to get her checked as soon as you can, though. Keep us updated.

Another thought.....she could be in pain and the growling normal, but she could also be feeling a little bit like pack leader in that since Tigs has been gone, you and she have become closer. She's into new territory with you, and now she's in pain. Maybe she's just not quite sure how to handle both things.
