to go to the dance with her, and he thought it was platonic, she read more into it - he cancelled out on her to go with Sarah, not knowing Liz's feelings for him... and after they fell in love, he FINALLY figured out why she was walking in the park alone - she's left the dance upset over Lucky....unbeknownst to him.... It was like someone knocked him in the head when he finally understood.
