Subject: The Otherworld Saga

stalkeryik here, checking in on the old boards to see how things are going. Things look healthy, though much slower than they were on IF.

For your perusal today I have a fic which was pointed out to me as bad on the Marysues Livejournal community, a matter which I have decided to more fully investigate.

The <a rel=nofollow target=_blank href="http://www.linsdomain.com/otherworld/coverpages/Otherworld-Index.htm">Otherworld Saga</a> begins with a man being attacked out of nowhere by a demon. He stumbles away in pain, and falls through a portal that mysteriously appears out of nowhere, where he is found dying in a puddle of his own gore by Sanosuke, one of the longtime residents of the dojo of Kamiya Kaoru. Sanosuke carries the injured man to the dojo, and sends for medical help:

<i>With Kenshin’s help, she removed his clothing, most of it already in tatters. They careful washed the wounds so Megume could see them clearly. With a heavy sigh, she began to sew the battered body together. His intestines were torn in pieces – she sewed two pieces together and watched in amazement as they fused together and began to heal on their own.</i>

I'd have to say, these people have to be either <i>very</i> optimistic or <i>very</i> good in order to try and heal a man with ruptured intestines, preternatural healing notwithstanding. But at any rate, the man is healed, though with several miles of thread holding his insides together. And minutes later, one of our injured man's friends arrives.

<i>I am Hiei,” the small man replied, “and he is named Kurama. We are grateful that you helped him.</i>

So. Our mystery man is, in fact, Youko Kurama, of Yuu Yuu Hakusho. But wait, what's this?

<i>“Kurama and I live in Otherworld.” His audience just stared at him.

“Damn!” thought Hiei. How was he going to explain Otherworld?</i>

How, indeed? Fortunately, explanation is forthcoming in the subsequent chapter.

<i>Otherworld was a land that stood between the four worlds, a land where time passed at its own pace. It was a beautiful land with rolling hills, blue skies, and majestic peaks topped with snow. And it was filled with danger and death.

Surrounded on all sides by the four worlds: Human, Demon, Spirit and the Four Gods World, it alone kept the boundaries between the worlds separate. But it’s boundaries were within and therefore offered Otherworld itself no protection. </i>

As is futher explained, the denizens of the Otherworld have a demon problem. Fortunately, all is not lost:

<i>Five young women with the ability to emotionally bind males to themselves. In turn, these bound males would use their powers to protect Otherworld.</i>

Uh-oh. <i>This</i> sounds ominous. As a matter of fact, I would wager that the more cynical among us might see where this is ultimately going to wind up. And now we introduce our heroine.

<i>The youngest was in charge of protecting Otherworld itself. Her name was Aara. Like her sisters, she didn't know how she came to be. She just knew she had been created to protect this land. She was a part of the land -- heart and soul -- and she would protect it with every part of her being. She just needed to bind her first male.</i>

Note the phrasing. Not "demon", but "male". Already we start to see glimpses of what may be the true manner of this work.

<i>"A present from your sister," Kaleffe, the first male, said. "Your sister believes it is time for you bind your first male. Please lead us to his room."

Silently she lead them up the stairs and to the first room to the right of her own. The males dragged the squirming bundle up the stairs and into the bedroom. Then they opened the cloth sack and dumped him out onto the bed. He was naked, panting and moaning. She looked at Kaleffe for an explanation.

"This is a kitsune, a fox demon, and possibly the most powerful one of them all. His name is Youko Kurama." </i>

Ayup. Thought as much. Sex ensues.

<i>He looked at her with cold eyes. There was no friendliness in that gaze. She wondered if she had bound him correctly and reached to touch his arm. His stare did not change. She ran her fingers lightly down his arm and he moved with her touch. His gaze was now warm and loving. Ah! Since he had been in heat when she bound him, his sexuality would be her control over him. </i>

Thus it is. Our hero is unceremoniously kidnapped from his home, stripped, humiliated, and finally lobotomized into sexual servitude. But that's all right. The heroine's doing it, so it's just fine.

The sorry saga continues, of course, with Kurama being pursued by a vengeful spirit hunter and being forced to reincarnate in the body of a femmy-looking boy named Shuichi. All this is told in the form of flashbacks by his various cronies, who arrive at the Kamiya Dojo to look after their fallen comrade. As mentioned above, these include Hiei, Bankotsu the lightning demon, and...

<i>As they traveled back home, with Youko Kurama riding beside her, a thought occurred to her and the asked the Fox. "What is the younger brother like?"

"Who?" Youko Kurama asked.

"Sesshomaru's younger brother. He mentioned that he had a Hanyou brother."

"Ah, InuYasha. I had heard that at the end of his life, Inutaishou fell in love with a human and had a half human son. The son was was born here in Otherworld and lives a few days from here. He isn't accepted by Demon World and probably isn't accepted by the humans who live in Otherworld either." he turned to the Princess, "Why do you ask? You can't even consider a half-breed for a mate."

"Why not?" she exclaimed. "Hiei is half fire demon and half ice demon."

"But he is all demon. InuYasha is half-human, a Hanyou. If you think your sisters tease you now about Hiei, try bringing a Hanyou into your bed and see what they say."</i>

Heywood, this is your cue.

Hm. I'm not sure I want to spend any more time expounding on this fic. I leave the rest up to you, ladies and gentlemen of the GAFF board.
