Author: Canadian eh? You betcha!
Subject: This is how they do it in Canada, if you want to know.

If you ask Paul who is eligible for working ATC in both US and Canada, he may remember me.

Applying with NAV Canada is just the plan B for me, as I heard, I am in the MN state hiring panel already, but no interview date yet.

So I just came back from the Nav Canada ATC test, it is similar with AT-SAT, but the Canadian one not computer based (fill in bubble sheets). So there is no "alphabetic factory" section.

Also the Canadian one does not have any aviation related sections, so there is no ATC radar thingy. However they have a short reading section.

It cost me CAN$210 to take the test, it is not free as AT-SAT.

Following is the email they sent me well before the test, it is informative, only if FAA give emails like this.

Dear Mr. Canadian eh? You betcha!
Candidate #: 91210

Thank you for your interest in pursuing career opportunities with NAV CANADA.
We encourage you to consult the NAV CANADA website
at the following address:
http://atsrecruitment.navcanada.ca
for more information.

This letter is to notify you that aptitude testing for Air Traffic
Controller and Flight Service Specialist trainee positions will take place
in the following area(s) in your province. Please note, you are able to
write the tests in the language of your choice. The instructions, during
the session, will be presented in English only. Here are the dates and
times:

Afternoon Session ¡V English

Saturday, February 16th 2008

Vancouver, BC
Room: Allegro

THE TESTING SESSION

The testing session includes a series of aptitude and ability tests as
well as a behavioral work styles questionnaire. The testing session will
last approximately 4-5 hours. Candidates who have selected both ATC and
FSS positions will complete the same tests.

The tests are standardized and measure specific aspects of your aptitudes
and personality. The measured aptitudes include verbal evaluation,
numerical estimation, diagramming, spatial reasoning, and audio checking.
The tests are widely used in aviation and other related fields, and the
aptitudes they measure have all been shown to be relevant to Air Traffic
Services positions. Since these are standardized tests, the content does
not require specific knowledge of Air Traffic Services. All of the
aptitude tests are timed, and it is important to note that very few
applicants complete all of the items on the tests within the given
timeframe.

PLEASE NOTE: It is not current policy of SHL and NAV CANADA to provide
candidates with additional information or feedback relating to the
assessment process. This is due to the complexity of the scoring process,
the large quantity of candidates tested, and the need to maintain the
integrity of the process.

WHAT YOU NEED TO BRING TO THE TESTING SESSION:

- A fee of 210.00 ($200 + applicable taxes), payment can be made via
money order, certified cheque, or bank draft only, payable to NAV CANADA.
- No cash, personal cheques or credit cards will be accepted. (Please
ensure that your name, complete mailing address, and candidate number are
clearly identified on your payment.)
- PLEASE NOTE: test fees are non-refundable.
- Valid Photo identification. (If you do not bring both the testing fee
and your photo identification, you will not be admitted to the testing
session.)
- A copy of your resume.
- Your Candidate Number.

PREPARATION

In preparation for the testing session, we suggest the following:

Before the session:
